Removal & Installation



3.8L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Front cover
     
    Oil filter adapter, pressure valve and spring
     
    Oil pump cover
     
    Oil pump gear set

To install:

  1. Lubricate the gear set with petroleum jelly.
  2.  
  3. Install the oil pump gear set into the front cover.
  4.  
  5. Pack the gear cavity with petroleum jelly for proper priming.
  6.  
  7. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pump cover. Torque the screws to 98 inch lbs. (11 Nm).
     
    Oil filter adapter with a new gasket, pressure valve and spring. Torque the bolts to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
     
    Front cover. Torque the bolts to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  8.  

5.7L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the crankcase.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front cover
     
    Oil pan
     
    Oil pump screen
     
    Oil pan deflector
     
    Oil pump and propeller shaft

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pump and propeller shaft. Torque the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     
    Oil pan deflector. Torque the nuts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     
    Oil pump screen. Torque the bolt to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
     
    Oil pan
     
    Front cover. Torque the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     

  2.  
  3. Refill the crankcase.
  4.
