Fuel Pressure Regulator

Removal & Installation



3.8L Engines

NOTE
Cap the fittings and plug the holes when servicing the fuel system in order to prevent dirt and other contaminants from entering the open pipes and passages.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect battery negative cable from battery and properly isolate to prevent accidental reconnection.
  4.  
  5. Relieve the fuel pressure.
  6.  
  7. Remove the fuel rail.
  8.  
  9. Clean any dirt from the fuel pressure regulator retaining ring.
  10.  
  11. Remove the snap ring.
  12.  
  13. Using a shop towel to catch any spilled fuel, lift and twist the fuel pressure regulator in order to remove the fuel pressure regulator from the fuel pressure regulator housing.
  14.  
  15. Remove the pressure regulator small O-ring.
  16.  
  17. Remove the pressure regulator filter screen.
  18.  
  19. Remove the pressure regulator large O-ring.
  20.  
  21. Remove the pressure regulator O-ring back up.
  22.  
  23. Cover the fuel pressure regulator housing in order to prevent contamination from entering the fuel system.

To install:


NOTE
Do not use compressed air in order to test or clean a fuel pressure regulator as damage to the fuel pressure regulator may result. Clean the fuel pressure regulator filter screen with gasoline if necessary. Do not immerse the fuel pressure regulator in a solvent bath in order to prevent damage to the fuel pressure regulator.

  1. Install or connect the following:

    New O-rings on the fuel pressure regulator. Lubricate the O-rings lightly with clean engine oil.
     
    Pressure regulator O-ring back up
     
    Pressure regulator large O-ring
     
    Pressure regulator filter screen
     
    Pressure regulator small O-ring
     
    Fuel pressure regulator in the fuel pressure regulator housing
     
    Snap ring
     
    Fuel rail
     

  2.  
  3. Inspect for leaks.
  4.  
  5. Pressurize the fuel system as follows:
    1. Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds.
    2.  
    3. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
    4.  
    5. Turn ON the ignition.
    6.  

  6.  
  7. Check for fuel leaks.
  8.  
  9. Reconnect negative battery cable.
  10.  

5.7L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect battery negative cable from battery and properly isolate to prevent accidental reconnection.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Fuel sender assembly
     
    Fuel pressure regulator retaining clip
     
    Fuel pressure regulator from the housing on the fuel return pipe

To install:

  1. Lubricate the new fuel pressure regulator large and small O-rings with clean engine oil.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    New fuel pressure regulator large and small O-rings on the fuel pressure regulator.
     
    New fuel pressure regulator filter screen.
     
    Fuel pressure regulator into the housing on the fuel return pipe.
     
    New fuel pressure regulator retaining clip
     

  4.  
  5. Install the fuel sender assembly.
  6.  
  7. Reconnect negative battery cable.
  8.
