3.8L Engine

WARNING
Do not use solvent of any type when cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as damage to the gasket surfaces and throttle body assembly may result.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Disconnect battery negative cable from battery and properly isolate to prevent accidental reconnection.
  4.
  5. Drain the radiator coolant.
  6.
  7. Remove the air intake duct form the throttle body.
  8.
  9. Disconnect the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector.
  10.
  11. Disconnect the throttle body/throttle actuator control (TAC) electrical connector.
  12.
  13. Remove the throttle body/throttle actuator control (TAC) assembly from the intake and discard the gasket.
  14.

To install:

  1. Install the throttle body/TAC assembly to the intake with a new gasket and tighten the nuts and bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm)
  2.
  3. Reconnect the throttle body/TAC electrical connector.
  4.
  5. Reconnect the MAF electrical connector
  6.
  7. Reinstall the air intake duct to the throttle body/TAC assembly.
  8.
  9. Refill the radiator in order to replace the lost coolant.
  10.
  11. Reconnect negative battery cable.
  12.

5.7L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.

  8.
  9. Remove the air intake duct.
  10.
  11. Disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor and the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve electrical connectors.
  12.
  13. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose from the throttle body.
  14.
  15. Disconnect the cruise control cable at the throttle body lever.
  16.
  17. Disconnect the accelerator control cable at the throttle body lever.
  18.
  19. Disconnect the coolant hose.
  20.
  21. Disconnect the coolant hose from the radiator.
  22.
  23. Remove the throttle body and discard the gasket.
  24.

To install:

WARNING
DO NOT soak the throttle body in cold immersion type cleaner. The throttle valve has a factory applied sealing compound (DAG material is applied to the outside edge of the valve and the throttle bore) to prevent air bypass at closed throttle. Strong solvents or brushing will remove the material. To clean the throttle body following disassembly, use a spray type cleaner such as GM X-66A or GM 1052626 (Canadian P/N 993026). Use a shop towel to remove heavy deposits.

  1. Clean the gasket sealing surfaces.
  2.
  3. Install the throttle body with a new gasket and tighten the bolts to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm)
  4.
  5. Connect the coolant hose to the radiator.
  6.
  7. Connect the accelerator control cable to the throttle body lever.
  8.
  9. Connect the cruise control cable to the throttle body lever.
  10.
  11. Connect the crankcase ventilation hose to the throttle body.
  12.
  13. Connect the TP sensor (2) and the IAC valve (1) electrical connectors.
  14.
  15. Install the air intake duct.
  16.
  17. Connect the IAT sensor and the MAF sensor electrical connectors.
  18.
  19. Refill the cooling system.
  20.
  21. Reconnect negative battery cable.
  22.
