Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

The crankshaft position sensor system consists of a crankshaft position sensor plate and a magnetic coil. The sensor plate has 34 teeth and is installed on the crankshaft. The pickup coil is made of windings, an iron core and a magnet. The sensor plate rotates as each tooth passes through the pickup coil, and a pulse signal is created. The pickup coil generates 34 signals per engine revolution. Based on these signals, the ECM calculates the crankshaft position and engine RPM. Using these calculations, the fuel injection time and ignition timing are controlled.

Removal & Installation



2.4L Engine

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front right wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the right hand front fender apron.
  8.  
  9. Remove the drive belt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the generator assembly.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor connector.
  14.  
  15. Remove the connector clamp and wire harness clamp.
  16.  
  17. Remove the wire harness clamp bracket from the wire harness.
  18.  
  19. Remove the bolt, then remove the crankshaft position sensor.

To install:

  1. Apply a light coat of engine oil to the O-ring on the crankshaft position sensor.
  2.  
  3. Install the crankshaft position sensor with the bolt and tighten to 7ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the crankshaft position sensor connector.
  6.  
  7. The remainder of installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

3.5L Engine

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove alternator assembly.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the cooler compressor assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the crankshaft position sensor connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolt, and then remove the crankshaft position sensor.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Apply a light coat of engine oil to the O-ring on the crankshaft position sensor.
  2.  
  3. Install the crankshaft position sensor with the bolt and tighten to 7ft. lbs. (10 Nm).

  5. Connect the crankshaft position sensor connector.

  7. The remainder of installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

Testing



Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

Disconnect the CKP sensor connector and measure the resistance according to the value(s) specified. If the resistance is not as specified, replace the CKP sensor.


NOTE
-Cold" and "Hot" mean the temperature of the coils themselves. "Cold" is from 14°F (-10°C) to 122°F (50°C) and "Hot" is from 122°F (50°C) to 212°F (100°C).

2.4L Engine

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

  1. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals:
    1. Resistance:

      985 to 1,600 ohms at cold
       
      1, 265 to 1, 890 ohms at hot

  1. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals:
    1. Resistance:

      1,630 to 2,740 ohms at cold
       
      2, 065 to 3, 225 ohms at hot
