CAUTION
Before inspecting the high-voltage system or disconnecting the low voltage connector of the inverter with converter assembly, take safety precautions, such as wearing insulated gloves and removing the service plug grip to prevent electrical shocks. Make sure to turn the power switch off before removing the service plug grip. After removing the service plug grip, put it in your pocket to prevent other technicians from accidentally reconnecting it while you are working on the high-voltage system.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install on engine stand.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil filler cap and gasket.
  8.  
  9. Remove the spark plugs and ignition coil assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the drain plug and gasket.
  12.  
  13. Remove the ventilation valve.
  14.  
  15. Remove the 4 bolts and 4 camshaft position sensors.
  16.  
  17. Remove the 4 bolts and 4 camshaft timing oil control valves.
  18.  
  19. Remove the bolt and crankshaft position sensor.
  20.  
  21. Remove the No. 1 oil pipe.
  22.  
  23. Remove the oil pipe.
  24.  
  25. Remove the cylinder block water drain cock sub-assembly.
  26.  
  27. Remove the oil filter element.
  28.  
  29. Remove the crankshaft pulley, as follows:
    1. Using SST (SST: 09213-70011, SST: 09330-00021) or equivalent, loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt.
    2.  
    3. Using SST (SST: 09950-50013) or equivalent, remove the crankshaft pulley bolt and crankshaft pulley.

To install:

  1. Install the crankshaft pulley, as follows:
    1. Align the pulley set key with the key groove of the pulley, and slide on the pulley.
    2.  
    3. Using SST (SST: 09213-70011, SST: 09330-00021) or equivalent, install the pulley bolt and tighten to 184 ft. lbs. (250 Nm).

  3. Install the oil filter element.
  4.  
  5. Install the cylinder block water drain cock sub-assembly.
  6.  
  7. Install the No. 1 oil pipe.
  8.  
  9. Install the oil pipe.
  10.  
  11. Install the crankshaft position sensor.
  12.  
  13. Install the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
  14.  
  15. Install the camshaft position sensor.
  16.  
  17. Install the ventilation valve sub-assembly.
  18.  
  19. Install the spark plugs and the ignition coil assembly.
  20.  
  21. Install the oil filler cap sub-assembly.
  22.  
  23. Remove the engine stand.
  24.  
  25. Install the engine assembly.
  26.  

Non-hybrid

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Remove the engine assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install on engine stand.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil filler cap and gasket.
  8.  
  9. Remove the spark plugs and ignition coil assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the drain plug and gasket.
  12.  
  13. Remove the ventilation valve.
  14.  
  15. Remove the 4 bolts and 4 camshaft position sensors.
  16.  
  17. Remove the 4 bolts and 4 camshaft timing oil control valves.
  18.  
  19. Remove the bolt and crankshaft position sensor.
  20.  
  21. Remove the No. 1 oil pipe.
  22.  
  23. Remove the oil pipe.
  24.  
  25. Remove the cylinder block water drain cock sub-assembly.
  26.  
  27. Remove the oil filter element.
  28.  
  29. Remove the crankshaft pulley, as follows:
    1. Using SST (SST: 09213-70011, SST: 09330-00021) or equivalent, loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt.
    2.  
    3. Using SST (SST: 09950-50013) or equivalent, remove the crankshaft pulley bolt and crankshaft pulley.
    4.

To install:

  1. Install the crankshaft pulley, as follows:
    1. Align the pulley set key with the key groove of the pulley, and slide on the pulley.

    3. Using SST (SST: 09213-70011, SST: 09330-00021) or equivalent, install the pulley bolt and tighten to 184 ft. lbs. (250 Nm).

  9. Install the oil pipe.

  13. Install the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
  14.  
  15. Install the camshaft position sensor.
  16.  
  17. Install the ventilation valve sub-assembly.
  18.  
  19. Install the spark plugs and the ignition coil assembly.
  20.  
  21. Install the oil filler cap sub-assembly.
  22.  
  23. Remove the engine stand.
  24.  
  25. Install the engine assembly.
  26.
