Toyota Camry 2007-2008


CAUTION
Before inspecting the high-voltage system or disconnecting the low voltage connector of the inverter with converter assembly, take safety precautions, such as wearing insulated gloves and removing the service plug grip to prevent electrical shocks. Make sure to turn the power switch off before removing the service plug grip. After removing the service plug grip, put it in your pocket to prevent other technicians from accidentally reconnecting it while you are working on the high-voltage system.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine oil.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pan drain plug and gasket.

  9. Remove the oil pan 12 bolts and 2 nuts.
    NOTE
    Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the crankcase, chain cover and oil pan.

  11. Insert the blade of Special Tool: 09032-00100 between the crankcase and oil pan. Cut through the sealer and remove the oil pan.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Remove the any old packing material and be careful not to drop any oil on the contact surfaces of the cylinder block and oil pan.
  2.  
  3. Apply a continuous bead of seal packing (Diameter 0.118 to 0.157 inches (3.0 to 4.0 mm)). Use Toyota Genuine Seal Packing Block, Three Bond 1207B or Equivalent.
    NOTE
    Remove any oil from the contact surfaces. Install the oil pan within 3 minutes after applying seal packing. Do not start the engine for at least 2 hours after installing.

  5. Uniformly tighten the 12 bolts and 2 nuts in sequence. Tighten the bolts and nuts to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  6.  
  7. To complete installation, reverse remaining removal procedure.
  8.  
  9. Add oil and check for leaks.
  10.  

Non-hybrid

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine oil.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pan drain plug and gasket.

  9. Remove the oil pan 12 bolts and 2 nuts.
    NOTE
    Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the crankcase, chain cover and oil pan.

  11. Insert the blade of Special Tool: 09032-00100 between the crankcase and oil pan. Cut through the sealer and remove the oil pan.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Remove any old packing material and be careful not to drop any oil on the contact surfaces of the cylinder block and oil pan.
  2.  
  3. Apply a continuous bead of seal packing (Diameter 0.118 to 0.157 inches (3.0 to 4.0 mm)). Use Toyota Genuine Seal Packing Block, Three Bond 1207B or Equivalent.
    NOTE

3.5L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine assembly with transaxle.
  6.  
  7. Secure the engine.
  8.  
  9. Remove the oil filler cap and gasket.
  10.  
  11. Remove the oil pan drain plug and gasket.
  12.  
  13. Remove the oil pan drain plug and gasket.
  14.  
  15. Remove the No. 1 oil pipe, as follows:
    1. Remove the 2 oil pipe unions and oil pipe.
    2.  
    3. Remove the left hand oil control valve filter and gaskets.
    4.

  17. Remove the oil pipe, as follows:
    1. Remove the bolt.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 2 oil pipe unions and oil pipe.
    4.  
    5. Remove the right oil control valve filter and gaskets.
    6.

  19. Remove the oil filter element, as follows:
    1. Remove the drain plug. Do not remove the O-ring.
    2.  
    3. Connect the hose to the pipe.
    4.  
    5. Insert the pipe with the hose into the oil filter cap.
    6.  
    7. Make sure that the oil is completely drained and remove the pipe and O-ring.
    8.  
    9. Using SST (SST: 09228-06501) or equivalent, remove the oil filter cap.
    10.  
    11. Remove the oil filter element and O-ring from the oil filter cap. Do not use any tools when removing the O-ring to prevent the O-ring groove from being damaged.
    12.

  21. Remove the No. 2 oil pan sub-assembly, as follows:
    1. Remove the 16 bolts and 2 nuts.

    3. Insert the blade of SST (SST: 09032-00100) or equivalent tool between the oil pans. Cut through the applied sealer and remove the No. 2 oil pan sub-assembly.
      NOTE
      Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the oil pans.

  23. Remove the oil pan sub-assembly, as follows:
    1. Remove the 16 bolts and 2 nuts.
      NOTE
      Be sure to clean the bolts and stud bolts and check the threads for cracks or other damage.

    3. Remove the oil pan by prying between the oil pan and cylinder block with a taped screwdriver.
      NOTE
      Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the cylinder block and oil pan.

    5. Remove the 2 O-rings.

To install:

  1. Install the oil pan sub-assembly, as follows:
    1. Using an E8 Torx® socket wrench, install the stud bolts as shown in the illustration. Tighten to 7 ft. lbs (10 Nm).

    3. Install 2 new O-rings.
      NOTE
      Remove any oil from the contact surface.


      NOTE
      Install the oil pan within 3 minutes after applying seal packing.


      NOTE
      Do not start the engine for at least 2 hours after installing.

    5. Apply seal packing (Toyota Genuine Seal Packing Black, Three Bond 1207B or equivalent) in a continuous line as shown in the illustration. Seal diameter: 3.0 to 4.0 mm (0.118 to 0.156 in.).

    7. Install the oil pan with the 16 bolts and 2 nuts and tighten to 7 ft. lbs (10 Nm), and 15 ft. lbs (21 Nm).

  3. Install the No. 2 oil pan sub-assembly, as follows:
    NOTE
    Remove any oil from the contact surface.


    NOTE
    Install the No. 2 oil pan within 3 minutes after applying seal packing.


    NOTE
    Do not start the engine for at least 2 hours after installing.

    1. Using an E6 Torx® socket wrench, install the stud bolts as shown in the illustration and tighten to 35 inch lbs (4 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Apply seal packing (Toyota Genuine Seal Packing Black, Three Bond 1207B or equivalent) in a continuous line as shown in the illustration. Seal diameter: 3.0 to 4.0 mm (0.118 to 0.156 in.).
    4.  
    5. Install the No. 2 oil pan with the 16 bolts and 2 nuts and tighten to 7 ft. lbs (10 Nm).
    6.

  5. Install the oil pan drain plug and a new gasket. Tighten to 30 ft. lbs (40 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the oil filter element, as follows:
    1. Clean the inside of the oil filter cap, the threads and O-ring groove.
    2.  
    3. Apply a small amount of engine oil to a new O-ring and install it to the oil filter cap.
    4.  
    5. Set a new oil filter element to the oil filter cap.
    6.  
    7. Remove dirt or foreign matter from the installation surface and inside of the engine.
    8.  
    9. Apply a small amount of engine oil to the O-ring again and install the oil filter cap.
      NOTE
      Be careful that the O-ring does not get caught between the parts. The O-ring must not be twisted on the groove.

    10.  
    11. Using SST (SST: 09228-06501) or equivalent, install the oil filter cap and tighten to 18 ft. lbs (25 Nm). Make sure that the oil filter is installed securely as shown in the illustration.

  9. Install the oil filler cap sub-assembly.
  10.  
  11. Install the engine assembly with transaxle.
  12.  
  13. Check for oil leaks.
