Toyota Camry 2007-2008


CAUTION
Before inspecting the high-voltage system or disconnecting the low voltage connector of the inverter with converter assembly, take safety precautions, such as wearing insulated gloves and removing the service plug grip to prevent electrical shocks. Make sure to turn the power switch off before removing the service plug grip. After removing the service plug grip, put it in your pocket to prevent other technicians from accidentally reconnecting it while you are working on the high-voltage system.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the oil filler cap.

  5. Remove the ventilation valve.
  6.  
  7. Remove the spark plugs.
  8.  
  9. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter.
  10.  
  11. Remove the two bolts and disconnect the two engine wires.
  12.  
  13. Remove the eight bolts, two nuts and the valve cover.
  14.  
  15. Remove the cylinder head cover gasket.

To install:

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Install the cylinder head cover with the eight bolts and two nuts . Tighten the following in sequence to specification:

    Bolt A: 8 ft. lbs. (11 Nm)
     
    Bolt B: 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm)
     
    Nut: 8 ft. lbs. (11 Nm)

Non-hybrid

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the oil filler cap.

  5. Remove the ventilation valve.
  6.  
  7. Remove the spark plugs.
  8.  
  9. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter.
  10.  
  11. Remove the two bolts and disconnect the two engine wires.
  12.  
  13. Remove the eight bolts, two nuts and the valve cover.
  14.  
  15. Remove the cylinder head cover gasket.

To install:

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Install the cylinder head cover with the eight bolts and two nuts . Tighten the following in sequence to specification:

    Bolt A: 8 ft. lbs. (11 Nm)
     
    Bolt B: 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm)
     
    Nut: 8 ft. lbs. (11 Nm)

3.5L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine assembly with transaxle.
  4.  
  5. Secure engine.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil filler cap sub-assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the spark plugs and ignition coil assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the oil pan drain plug and gasket.
  12.  
  13. Remove the ventilation valve sub-assembly.
  14.  
  15. Remove the camshaft position sensor.
  16.  
  17. Remove the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
  18.  
  19. Remove crankshaft position sensor.
  20.  
  21. Remove the No. 1 oil pipe.
  22.  
  23. Remove the oil pipe.
  24.  
  25. Remove the cylinder block water drain cock sub-assembly.
  26.  
  27. Remove the oil filter.
  28.  
  29. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
  30.  
  31. Remove the left hand No. 1 front engine mounting bracket.
  32.  
  33. Remove the water inlet housing.
  34.  
  35. Remove the water outlet.
  36.  
  37. Remove the 12 bolts, seal washer, bank 1valve cover and gasket.
    NOTE
    The baffle plate is located on the back of the portion shown in the illustration. Do not damage the baffle plate when removing the head cover.

  39. Remove the 12 bolts, seal washer, bank 2 cover and gasket.

To install:

  1. Install the cylinder head cover sub-assembly, as follows:
    1. Apply seal packing (Toyota Genuine Seal Packing Black, Three Bond 1207B or equivalent) as shown in the illustration.
      NOTE
      Remove any oil from the contact surface.


      NOTE
      Install the crankcase within 3 minutes after applying seal packing.


      NOTE
      Do not start the engine for at least 2 hours after installation.

    3. Install 3 new gaskets.

    5. Install the gasket to the head cover.
    6.  
    7. Install the head cover with the 12 bolts and a new washer and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (21 Nm), and 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm). Be sure to tighten bolt 1.

  3. Install bank 2 valve cover sub-assembly, as follows:
    NOTE
    Remove any oil from the contact surface.


    NOTE
    Install the crankcase within 3 minutes after applying seal packing.


    NOTE
    Do not start the engine for at least 2 hours after installation.

    1. Apply seal packing (Toyota Genuine Seal Packing Black, Three Bond 1207B or equivalent) as shown in the illustration.

    3. Install 3 new gaskets as shown in the illustration.

    5. Install the gasket to the head cover.
    6.  
    7. Install the head cover with the 14 bolts and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (21 Nm), and 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm). Be sure to tighten bolts 1 and 10.

  5. Install the water outlet.
  6.  
  7. Install the crankshaft pulley.
  8.  
  9. Install the oil filter.
  10.  
  11. Install the cylinder block water drain cock sub-assembly.
  12.  
  13. Install the No. 1 oil pipe.
  14.  
  15. Install the oil pipe.
  16.  
  17. Install the crankshaft position sensor.
  18.  
  19. Install the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
  20.  
  21. Install the camshaft position sensor.
  22.  
  23. Install the ventilation valve sub-assembly.
  24.  
  25. Install the spark plugs and ignition coil assembly.
  26.  
  27. Install the oil filler cap sub-assembly.
  28.  
  29. Install the water pump assembly.
  30.  
  31. Install the engine assembly with transaxle.
