Fuel Rail (Supply Manifold) & Injectors

Removal & Installation



2.4L Engine

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Discharge fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect battery negative cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove air cleaner cap sub-assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly.
    NOTE
    Check for foreign matter on the pipe and around the connector before disconnecting the quick connector. Clean the connector if necessary.

  11. Disconnect fuel tube sub-assembly, as follows:
    1. Remove the No. 1 fuel pipe clamp.
      CAUTION
      Do not use any tools in this following procedure. Check for foreign matter on the sealing surface of the disconnected pipe. Clean it if necessary.

    3. If the connector and pipe are stuck, pinch the connector, and push and pull the pipe to disconnect them.

    5. Separate the fuel tube from the fuel hose clamp.
    6.

  13. Disconnect the No. 2 ventilation hose from the ventilation valve.
  14.  
  15. Remove fuel delivery pipe with injector as follows:
    1. Remove the 2 wire harness clamps.
      CAUTION
      Be careful not to drop the fuel injectors when removing the fuel delivery pipe.

    3. Remove the 2 bolts, then remove the fuel delivery pipe together with the 4 fuel injectors.

    5. Remove the 2 delivery pipe spacers from the cylinder head.
    6.  
    7. Remove the 4 insulators from the cylinder head.

  17. Pull out the 4 injectors from the delivery pipe.
  18.  
  19. Remove the 4 O-rings from the injectors.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Install the fuel injector assembly, as follows:
    1. Apply a light coat of spindle oil or gasoline to new O-rings, and install one to each injector.
    2.  
    3. Apply a light coat of spindle oil or gasoline where the fuel delivery pipe contacts the O-ring.
    4.  
    5. Apply a light coat of gasoline or spindle oil to the O-ring again, then install the right and left fuel injectors onto the fuel delivery pipe.
      NOTE
      Make sure that the O-ring is not cracked or jammed before installing the injector.

    6.  
    7. Check that the fuel injector rotates smoothly. If the fuel injector does not rotate, replace the O-ring.

  3. Install fuel delivery pipe with injector as follows:
    1. Install 4 new insulators into the cylinder head.
    2.  
    3. Install the 2 delivery pipe spacers onto the cylinder head.
    4.  
    5. Install the fuel delivery pipe together with the 4 fuel injectors, then temporarily tighten the 2 bolts.
      NOTE
      Be careful not to drop the fuel injectors when installing the fuel delivery pipe.

    6.  
    7. Check that the fuel injector rotates smoothly. If the fuel injector does not rotate smoothly, replace the O-ring.
    8.  
    9. Tighten the 2 bolts to the specified torque and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
    10.  
    11. Connect the 4 fuel injector connectors.
    12.  
    13. Install the 2 wire harness clamps.
    14.

  5. Connect the No. 2 ventilation hose to the ventilation valve.

  7. Install the fuel tube to the fuel hose clamp.
  8.  
  9. Push the fuel tube connector until it makes a "click" sound.
  10.  
  11. Install the No. 1 fuel pipe clamp.
  12.  
  13. Install air cleaner cap sub-assembly.
  14.  
  15. Connect cable to negative battery terminal.
  16.  
  17. Check for fuel leaks.
  18.  
  19. Install No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly.
  20.  

3.5L Engine

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

  1. Properly discharge the fuel system pressure.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect battery negative cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain engine coolant.
  6.  
  7. Remove both windshield wiper arm and blade assemblies.
  8.  
  9. Remove the right cowl top ventilator louver.
  10.  
  11. Remove the windshield wiper motor and link assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove front fender to cowl side seal.
  14.  
  15. Remove the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly.
  16.  
  17. Remove windshield wiper motor and link assembly.
  18.  
  19. Remove cowl top panel outer sub-assembly.
  20.  
  21. Remove the V-bank cover sub-assembly.
  22.  
  23. Remove the air cleaner cap with air cleaner hose.
  24.  
  25. Remove the intake air surge tank.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the fuel tube sub-assembly, as follows:
    1. Remove the No. 2 fuel pipe clamp.

    3. Pinch the tube connector and then pull out the fuel pipe.
      NOTE
      Check that there is no dirt or other foreign objects around the connector before removing fuel tube, and clean the connector as necessary.


      NOTE
      It is necessary to prevent mud or dirt from entering the connector. If mud or dirt gets in the connector, the O-rings may not seal properly.


      NOTE
      Do not use any tools in this operation.


      NOTE
      Do not bend, kink or twist the nylon tube. Protect the connector by covering it with a plastic bag.


      NOTE
      When the pipe and connector are stuck, push and pull the connector to release and pull the connector out carefully.

  29. Remove the fuel injector assembly, as follows:
    1. Disconnect the 6 fuel injector connectors.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 5 bolts and fuel delivery pipe together with the 6 fuel injectors.
      NOTE
      Be careful not to drop the fuel injectors when removing the fuel delivery pipe.

    5. Remove the 6 insulators from the intake manifold.
    6.  
    7. Pull out the fuel injector from the fuel delivery pipe.
    8.  
    9. Remove the 6 O-rings from the injectors.
    10.

To install:

  1. Install the fuel injector assembly, as follows:
    1. Apply a light coat of spindle oil or gasoline to new O-rings, and install one to each injector.
    2.  
    3. Apply a light coat of spindle oil or gasoline where the fuel delivery pipe contacts the O-ring.
      NOTE
      Be careful not to twist the O-ring.


      NOTE
      After installing the fuel injector, check that it turns smoothly. If not, reinstall it with a new O-ring.

    4.  
    5. Push the fuel injector while twisting it back and forth to install it in the fuel delivery pipe.
    6.  
    7. Position the fuel injector connector outward.

    9. Install 6 new insulators to the intake manifold.
    10.  
    11. Place the fuel delivery pipe and the 6 fuel injectors together to the intake manifold.
      NOTE
      Be careful not to drop the fuel injectors when installing the fuel delivery pipe.

    12.  
    13. Temporarily install the 6 bolts which are used to hold the fuel delivery pipe to the intake manifold.
      NOTE
      After installing the fuel injector, check that it turns smoothly. If not, reinstall it with a new O-ring.

    14.  
    15. Tighten the 5 bolts which are used to hold the fuel delivery pipe to the intake manifold to 15 ft. lbs. (21 Nm).

  3. Push in the tube connector to the pipe until the tube connector makes a "click" sound.
    NOTE
    Before connecting the tube, make sure that it is not damaged. Make sure that there is no dirt present on the connecting surfaces.


    NOTE
    After connecting, check if the fuel tube connector and the pipe are securely connected by pulling on them.

  5. Install the No. 2 fuel pipe clamp.
  6.  
  7. Te remainder of installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  8.  
  9. Check for coolant leak and fuel leak.
