Before servicing the air conditioning system on any vehicle, please be sure to read all of the following precautions, which deal with personal safety, prevention of component damage, and important points to take into consideration when servicing the air conditioning system:
Use only specified lubricant for the HFC-134a (R-134a) A/C system and HFC-134a (R-134a) components. If lubricant other than that specified is used, compressor malfunction is likely to occur.
Do not handle refrigerant in an enclosed area or near an open flame
Always wear eye protection
Avoid breathing A/C refrigerant and lubricant vapor or mist. Exposure may irritate eyes, nose and
Be careful not to get liquid refrigerant in your eyes or on your skin. If liquid refrigerant gets in your eyes or on your skin, wash the area with lots of cool water, apply clean petroleum jelly to the skin and go immediately to a physician or hospital for medical treatment
Do not rub your eyes or skin.
Never heat container or expose it to naked flame
Be careful not to drop container and not to apply physical shocks to it
Never operate the compressor without enough refrigerant in refrigerant system. If there is not enough refrigerant in the refrigerant system oil lubrication will be insufficient and compressor burnout may occur,
so take care to avoid this, necessary care should be taken.
Do not open high pressure manifold valve while compressor is operating. If the high pressure valves opened, refrigerant flows in the reverse direction and could cause the charging cylinder to rupture, so open and close the only low pressure valve.
Be careful not to overcharge system with refrigerant. If refrigerant is overcharged, it causes problems such as insufficient cooling, poor fuel economy, engine overheating etc.
When removing refrigerant components from a vehicle, immediately cap (seal) the component to
minimize the entry of moisture from the atmosphere.
When installing refrigerant components to a vehicle, do not remove the caps (unseal) until just
before connecting the components. Connect all refrigerant loop components as quickly as possible
to minimize the entry of moisture into system.
Only use the specified lubricant from a sealed container. Immediately reseal containers of lubricant.
Without proper sealing, lubricant will become moisture saturated and should not be used.
Remove refrigerant (R-134a) from the A/C system, using certified service equipment meeting
requirements of SAE J2210 R-134a recycling equipment If accidental system discharge occurs, ventilate work area before resuming service. Additional health and safety information may be obtained from refrigerant and lubricant manufacturers.
Do not allow lubricant to come in contact with Styrofoam parts. Damage may result.
This vehicle is equipped with a SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) such as the driver, front passenger, side, and curtain shield air bags. Failure to carry out service operation in the correct sequence could cause the SRS to unexpectedly deploy during servicing, possibly leading to a serious accident. Before servicing (including removal or installation of parts, inspection or replacement), be sure to read the precautionary notices.
