Removal & Installation



2.4L Engine

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the plastic engine cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the air cleaner inlet assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the air cleaner cap sub-assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the air cleaner case sub-assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the two bolts and air cleaner bracket.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the two ECM connectors by raising the two levers. While pushing the locks on the two levers, disconnect the two ECM connectors.
    NOTE
    After disconnecting the connectors, make sure that dirt, water or other foreign matter does not contact the connections of the connectors.

    1. Remove the ECM with the bracket and three bolts.
    2.  
    3. Remove the four screws and ECM brackets.

To install:

  1. Install the bracket to the ECM with the 4 screws, and tighten to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Attach the ECM with the three nuts and tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
    NOTE
    Make sure that dirt, water or other foreign matter does not contact the connections of the connectors.

  5. Connect the two ECM connectors and lower the two levers.
  6.  
  7. Install the ECM to the body.
  8.  
  9. Install the two bolts and air cleaner bracket.
  10.  
  11. Install the air cleaner case sub-assembly.
  12.  
  13. Install the air cleaner cap sub-assembly.
  14.  
  15. Install the air cleaner inlet assembly.
  16.  
  17. Remove the plastic engine cover.
  18.  
  19. Connect the negative battery cable.
  20.  
  21. Register the immobilizer communication ID. If the ECM is replaced, register the ECM communication ID for the immobilizer system (refer to the Service Bulletin for registration).

  23. Perform initialization. After replacing the ECM on vehicles with a dynamic laser cruise control system, it is necessary to initialize the ECM so that the ECM can recognize the dynamic laser cruise control system.

  25. Be sure to perform the following procedure after replacing the ECM:
    1. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).
    2.  
    3. Turn the cruise control main switch on.
    4.  
    5. With the brake pedal depressed, push the cruise control main switch to RES/ACC 3 times within 3 seconds. Check that the buzzer sounds at this time.
      NOTE
      Do not turn the headlight dimmer switch on at this time because the optical axis automatic adjustment mode has already started, which may lead to an incorrect optical axis setting. If the headlight dimmer switch is turned on by mistake, readjust the optical axis.

To install:

  19. Connect the negative battery cable.

  5. Remove both windshield wiper arm and blade assemblies.
  6.  
  7. Remove the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the windshield wiper motor and link assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the outer cowl top panel.
  12.  
  13. Remove the ECM, as follows:
    1. Remove the 3 nuts.
    2.  
    3. Separate the ECM from the body. When separating the ECM, do not apply excessive force to the wire harness.

    5. Raise the 2 levers while pushing the locks on the 2 levers, and disconnect the 2 ECM connectors.
      NOTE

  1. Install the 2 ECM brackets with the 4 screws, and tighten to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm).

  5. Install the ECM to the body.

  9. Install the outer cowl top panel.

  11. Install the windshield wiper motor and link assembly.

  13. Install the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly.
  14.  
  15. Install both windshield wiper arm and blade assemblies.

  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18.

    1. Remove the 3 nuts.

NOTE
The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) must be input into the replacement ECM.


NOTE
The VIN is of a 17-digit alphanumeric vehicle identification number. The Techstream is required to register the VIN.

Description

Read VIN: Explains the VIN reading process in a flowchart. This process allows the VIN stored in the ECM to be read in order to confirm that the 2 VINs, provided with the vehicle and stored in the vehicle ECM, are the same.

Write VIN: Explains the VIN writing process in a flowchart. This process allows the VIN to be input into the ECM. If the ECM is replaced, or the ECM VIN and vehicle VIN do not match, the VIN can be registered, or overwritten in the ECM by following this procedure.

Read VIN

  1. Confirm the vehicle VIN.
  2.  
  3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  6.  
  7. Turn the Techstream on.
  8.  
  9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / VIN / VIN Read.
  10.  

Write VIN

  1. Confirm the vehicle VIN.
  2.  
  3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  6.  
  7. Turn the Techs ream on.
  8.  
  9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / VIN / VIN Write.
