2AZ-FE Engine



Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2009

  1. Remove the front wheel opening extension pad RH.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheel opening extension pad LH.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine under cover LH.
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine under cover RH.
  8.  
  9. Drain the engine coolant.
    NOTE
    Do not remove the radiator cap sub assembly while the engine and radiator are still ho. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.

    1. Remove the radiator cap sub assembly from the radiator assembly.
    2.  
    3. Loosen the radiator drain cock plug and cylinder block drain cock plug, then drain the coolant.
      NOTE
      Collect the coolant in a container and dispose of it according to the regulations in your area.

  11. Add engine coolant.
    1. Close the radiator drain cock plug and 2 cylinder block drain cock plugs. Tighten to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm) for the cylinder block drain cock plug.
    2.  
    3. Slowly fill the radiator with TOYOTA Super Long Life Coolant (SLLC). Add 6.6 qts. (6.2 L).
      NOTE
      Toyota vehicle are filled with TOYOTA SLLC at the factory. In order to avoid damage to the engine cooling system and other technical problems, only use TOYOTA SLLC or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, non-borate coolant with long life hybrid organic acid technology (coolant with long life hybrid organic acid technology consists of a combination of low phosphates and organic acids).


      NOTE
      Contact your TOYOTA dealer for further details.

    5. Slowly pour coolant into the radiator reservoir tank until it reaches the FULL line.
    6.  
    7. Press the inlet and outlet radiator hoses several times by hand, and then check the level of the coolant. If the coolant is low, add coolant.
    8.  
    9. Install the radiator cap sub assembly and reservoir tank cap.
    10.  
    11. Start the engine, and warm it up.
      NOTE
      Adjust the air conditioner set temperature to MAX (Hot).

    12.  
    13. Stop the engine, and wait until the engine coolant cools down.
    14.  
    15. Add engine coolant to the FULL line on the radiator reservoir.

  13. Inspect for coolant leaks.

  15. Install the engine under cover RH.
  16.  
  17. Install the engine under cover LH.
  18.  
  19. Install the front wheel opening extension pad LH.
  20.  
  21. Install the front wheel opening extension pad RH.

2AZ-FXE Hybrid Engine



Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2009-2010

  1. Remove the front wheel opening extension pad RH and LH.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine under cover LH and RH.
  4.  
  5. Drain the coolant.
    NOTE
    Do not remove the radiator cap sub-assembly while the engine and radiator are still hot. Pressurized, hot coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.

    1. Remove the radiator cap sub-assembly from the radiator assembly.
    2.  
    3. Loosen the radiator drain cock plug and cylinder block drain cock plug, then drain the coolant.
      NOTE
      Collect the coolant in a container and dispose of it according to the regulations in your area.

  7. Add coolant.
    1. Close the radiator drain cock plug and cylinder block cock plug. Tighten the cylinder block drain cock plug to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).

    3. Slowly fill the radiator with Toyota Super Long Life Coolant (SLLC). Fill capacity is 6.6 qts (6.2 L).
      NOTE
      TOYOTA vehicles are filled with TOYOTA SLLC at the factory. In order to avoid damage to the engine cooling system and other technical problems, only use TOYOTA SLLC or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology (coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology consists of a combination of low phosphates and organic acids).

    5. Slowly pour coolant into the radiator reservoir tank until it reaches the FULL line.
    6.  
    7. Press the inlet and outlet radiator hoses several times by hand, and then check the level of the coolant.
    8.  
    9. If the coolant level is low, add coolant.
    10.  
    11. Install the radiator cap sub-assembly and reservoir tank cap.
    12.  
    13. Set the vehicle to inspection mode.
    14.  
    15. Start the engine, and warm it up.
      NOTE
      Adjust the air conditioner set temperature to MAX (HOT).

    16.  
    17. Stop the engine, and wait until the coolant cools down.
    18.  
    19. Add engine coolant to the FULL line on the radiator reservoir.
    20.  

  8.  
  9. Inspect for coolant leaks.
  10.  
  11. Install the engine under covers LH and RH.
  12.  
  13. Install the front wheel opening extension pad LH and RH.
  14.  

2GR-FE Engine



Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2009-2010

  1. Remove the front wheel opening extension pad RH.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheel opening extension pad LH.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine under cover RH.
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine under cover LH.
  8.  
  9. Remove the v-bank cover sub assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the cool air intake duct seal.
  12.  
  13. Drain the engine coolant.
    NOTE
    Do not remove the radiator cap sub assembly while the engine and radiator are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.

    1. Remove the radiator cap sub assembly from the radiator assembly.
    2.  
    3. Loosen the radiator drain cock plug and 2 cylinder block drain cock plugs, then drain the coolant.
      NOTE
      Collect the coolant in a container and dispose of it according to the regulations in your area.

  15. Add engine coolant.
    1. Close the radiator drain cock plug and 2 cylinder block drain cock plugs. Tighten to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm) for the cylinder drain cock plug.

    3. Slowly fill the radiator with TOYOTA SLLC. The specified capacity is 9.5 qts. (9 L).
      NOTE
      Toyota vehicle are filled with TOYOTA SLLC at the factory. Inspection Mode Procedure



Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2009-2010

Inspection Mode

  1. Activate inspection mode (not using Techstream).
    NOTE
    Perform the following 4 steps (Procedure -A- through -D-) within 60 seconds.

    1. Turn the power switch on (IG) with the shift lever in the P position (Procedure "A").
    2.  
    3. Fully depress the accelerator pedal twice with the shift P position (Procedure "B").
    4.  
    5. Move the shift lever to the N position and fully depress the accelerator pedal twice (Procedure "C").
    6.  
    7. Move the shift lever to the P position and fully depress the accelerator pedal twice (Procedure "D").
    8.  
    9. Check that the "FWD MAINTENANCE MODE" is displayed on the multi-information display of the combination meter. (Procedure "E").
      NOTE
      If the "FWD MAINTENANCE MODE" message appears on the multi-information display do not come on in procedure "E", repeat the procedures from "A" to "E".

  3. Activate inspection mode (Using Techstream).
    1. Connect Techstream to the DLC3 (Procedure "A").
    2.  
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG) (Procedure "B").
    4.  
    5. Turn Techstream on (Procedure "C").
    6.  
    7. Select following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Utility / Inspection Mode -2WD Inspection (Procedure "D").
    8.  
    9. Check that the "FWD MAINTENANCE MODE" is displayed on the multi-information display of the combination meter (Procedure "E").
    10.  
    11. If the "FWD MAINTENANCE MODE" message appears on the multi-information display do not come on in procedure "E", repeat the procedures from "A" to "E".
      NOTE
      If the "FWD MAINTENANCE MODE" message appears on the multi-information display do not come on in procedure "E", repeat the procedures from "A" to "E".

  5. Deactivate the inspection mode.
    1. Turn the power switch off. The HV main system turns off simultaneously.
      CAUTION
      The idling speed in inspection mode is approximately 900 rpm. The engine speed increases to 1,500 rpm if the accelerator pedal is depressed by less than 60 %. If the accelerator pedal is depressed by more than 60%, the engine speed increases to 2,500 rpm.


      CAUTION
      If a DTC is set during inspection mode, the master warning light and the warning massage illuminate on the multi-information display.


      CAUTION
      When the master warning light illuminates during the inspection mode, deactivate the inspection mode, and check DTC(s).


      CAUTION
      Driving the vehicle without deactivating the inspection mode may damage the transaxle.
