Flywheel or Flexplate

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. To gain access to the flywheel or flexplate, remove the transaxle. Refer to the Drive Train section for removal and installation procedures.
  6.  
  7. For A/T, perform the following:
    1. For TMMK made flexplate: use Special Tool: 09960-10010 to hold the crankshaft.
    2.  
    3. For TMC made flexplate: use Special Tools: 09213-54015and 09330-00021 to hold the crankshaft.
    4.  
    5. Remove the eight bolts, rear spacer, drive plate and front spacer.

  9. For M/T, perform the following:
    1. Remove the clutch cover assembly and clutch disc assembly.
    2.  
    3. For TMMK made flywheels: use Special Tool: 09960-10010 to hold the crankshaft.
    4.  
    5. For TMC made flywheels: use Special Tools: 09213-54015and 09330-00021 to hold the crankshaft.
    6.  
    7. Remove the eight bolts and flywheel.

To install:

  1. For M/T, perform the following:
    1. For TMMK made flywheels: use Special Tool: 09960-10010 to hold the crankshaft.
    2.  
    3. For TMC made flywheels: use Special Tools: 09213-54015and 09330-00021 to hold the crankshaft.
    4.  
    5. Clean the bolt and the bolt hole.
    6.  
    7. Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the bolt end. Adhesive: Part No. 08833-00070, Three Bond or equivalent.
    8.  
    9. Install the flywheel with the eight bolts. Uniformly tighten the 8 bolts in the sequence. Tighten to 96 ft. lbs. (130 Nm).
    10.  
    11. Install clutch cover assembly and clutch disc assembly.

  3. For M/T, perform the following:
    1. For TMMK made flywheel: use Special Tool: 09960-10010 to hold the crankshaft.

    3. For TMC made flywheels: use Special Tools: 09213-54015and 09330-00021 to hold the crankshaft.

    5. Clean the bolt and the bolt hole.
    6.  
    7. Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the bolt end. Adhesive: Part No. 08833-00070, Three Bond or equivalent.
    8.  
    9. Install the front spacer, drive plate and rear spacer with the 8 bolts. Uniformly tighten the eight bolts in the sequence. Tighten 72 ft. lbs. (98 Nm).

Hybrid

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008


CAUTION
Before inspecting the high-voltage system or disconnecting the low voltage connector of the inverter with converter assembly, take safety precautions, such as wearing insulated gloves and removing the service plug grip to prevent electrical shocks. Make sure to turn the power switch off before removing the service plug grip. After removing the service plug grip, put it in your pocket to prevent other technicians from accidentally reconnecting it while you are working on the high-voltage system.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. To gain access to the flywheel remove the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly. Refer to the Drive Train section for removal and installation procedures.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 6 bolts and transmission input damper from the flywheel.

  9. Use the Special Tools: 09213-54015 and 09330-00021 to hold the crankshaft.
  10.  
  11. Remove the eight bolts from the flywheel.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the 6 bolts and transmission input damper to the flywheel.
  2.  
  3. Use the Special Tools: 09213-54015 and 09330-00021 to hold the crankshaft.
  4.  
  5. Install the flywheel with the 8 bolts. Uniformly tighten the 8 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration to 96 ft. lbs. (130 Nm).

  7. Install new 6 bolts and transmission input damper and tighten to 22 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
    NOTE
    Take care not to insert the transmission input damper in the wrong direction.

  9. Install the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.
  10.  

Non-hybrid

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008
