Diagnosis & Testing

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the system. Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom. Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions.

When the sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly (sliding roof control ECU) detects malfunctions in the motor, and the sliding roof operation is stopped, DTC B2341 is output. When the sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly (sliding roof control ECU) detects malfunctions in the gear, and the sliding roof operation is stopped, DTC B2344 is output.

  1. Inspect the following trouble areas if DTC-s B2341 and B2344 are pulled.:

    Sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly (sliding roof control ECU)
     
    Roof console box assembly (sliding roof control switch)
     
    Wire harness
     

  2.  
  3. Repair or replace as necessary.
  4.  
  5. To diagnose and test the switch, perform the following:
  6.  
  7. Inspect roof console box assembly and remove if necessary.
  8.  
  9. Measure the resistance (standard) according to the value(s) below:

    Tester connection: Q6-1 (CLS)-Q6-3 (GND). Switch position: Closed. Specified condition: Below 100 Ohms.
     
    Tester connection: Q6-2 (OPN)-Q6-3 (GND). Switch position: Open. Specified condition: Below 100 Ohms.
     
    Tester connection: Q6-4 (DOWN)-Q6-3 (GND). Switch position: Down. Specified condition: Below 100 Ohms.
     
    Tester connection: Q6-5 (UP)-Q6-3 (GND). Switch position: Up. Specified condition: Below 100 Ohms.
     
    Tester connection: Q6-1 (CLS)-Q6-3 (GND). Switch position: Open. Specified condition: 1 kilo ohms or higher.
     
    Tester connection: Q6-2 (OPN)-Q6-3 (GND). Switch position: Close. Specified condition: 1 kilo ohms or higher.
     
    Tester connection: Q6-4 (DOWN)-Q6-3 (GND). Switch position: Up. Specified condition: 1 kilo ohms or higher.
     
    Tester connection: Q6-5 (UP)-Q6-3 (GND). Switch position: Down. Specified condition: 1 kilo ohms or higher.

When the sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly (sliding roof control ECU) detects malfunctions in the motor, and the sliding roof operation is stopped, DTC B2341 is output. When the sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly (sliding roof control ECU) detects malfunctions in the gear, and the sliding roof operation is stopped, DTC B2344 is output.

  1. Inspect the following trouble areas if DTC-s B2341 and B2344 are pulled.

    Sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly (sliding roof control ECU)
     
    Roof console box assembly (sliding roof control switch)
     
    Wire harness

  3. Repair or replace as necessary.

  5. To diagnose and test the switch, perform the following:

  7. Inspect roof console box assembly and remove if necessary.
  8.  
  9. Measure the resistance (standard) according to the value(s) below:

    Tester connection: Q6-1 (CLS)-Q6-3 (GND). Switch position: Closed. Specified condition: Below 100 Ohms.
     
    Tester connection: Q6-2 (OPN)-Q6-3 (GND). Switch position: Open. Specified condition: Below 100 Ohms.
     
    Tester connection: Q6-4 (DOWN)-Q6-3 (GND). Switch position: Down. Specified condition: Below 100 Ohms.
     
    Tester connection: Q6-5 (UP)-Q6-3 (GND). Switch position: Up. Specified condition: Below 100 Ohms.
     
    Tester connection: Q6-1 (CLS)-Q6-3 (GND). Switch position: Open. Specified condition: 1 kilo ohms or higher.
     
    Tester connection: Q6-2 (OPN)-Q6-3 (GND). Switch position: Close. Specified condition: 1 kilo ohms or higher.
     
    Tester connection: Q6-4 (DOWN)-Q6-3 (GND). Switch position: Up. Specified condition: 1 kilo ohms or higher.
     
    Tester connection: Q6-5 (UP)-Q6-3 (GND). Switch position: Down. Specified condition: 1 kilo ohms or higher.

Removal & Installation

CAUTION
Models are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS.

Motor & Switch

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the sliding roof housing. Refer to component location illustrations.

  7. Disengage the claw and remove the sliding roof room light bracket.
  8.  
  9. Remove the two bolts and sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly.

To install:

  1. Install the sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly with the 2 bolts and tighten to 48 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
  2.  
  3. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
  4.  
  5. Initialize the sliding roof motor, as follows:
    NOTE
    The sliding roof AUTO operation and the jam protection function may not operate normally if the battery is disconnected/reconnected, replaced or recharged.

    1. Turn the ignition switch on.
    2.  
    3. Initialize the sliding roof by pressing and holding the TILT UP switch until the roof glass tilts upward fully (the roof glass automatically tilts downward slightly after fully tilting upward).
    4.  
    5. Release the switch.
      NOTE
      If the battery terminal is disconnected, the sliding roof control ECU may not detect the position of the roof glass. If the sliding roof AUTO operation is still disabled even after the sliding roof drive gear has been initialized, the hall IC may be malfunctioning. The hall IC is built into the sliding roof drive gear and detects the roof glass position.

    7. If the result is not as specified, replace the drive gear assembly (sliding roof control ECU).

To install:

  1. Install the sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly with the 2 bolts and tighten to 48 inch lbs. (5 Nm).

Reset/Initialization Procedure
Sliding Roof Drive Gear Sub Assembly

NOTE
Before starting this operation, make sure that the guide rails are not deformed and there is no foreign object on the guide rails.


NOTE
When the sliding roof glass is adjusted or removed/installed, or the sliding roof drive gear assembly is replaced, the sliding roof ECU (sliding roof drive gear) must be initialized (pulse sensor initial position setting). Failure to initialize could result in displacement of the roof glass set position, defects in the automatic systems or the roof glass moving in the reverse direction.


NOTE
During initialization, do not apply a physical shock, such as opening/closing a door or driving the vehicle at 5 km/h (3 mph) or more, to the vehicle and do not perform the following electrical operations:



Cranking the engine
 
Turning the ignition switch from ON to OFF
 
Operating the power window switches
 
Operating the window defogger switch
 
Operating the blower switch
 
Locking/Unlocking a door
 
Operating the headlight dimmer switch
 
Operating the power seat switch
 


NOTE
The sliding roof switch assembly is attached to the roof console box assembly.

Procedure A

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2009-2010

  1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
  2.  
  3. Fully close the sliding roof glass and release the sliding roof switch.
  4.  
  5. Press and hold the UP switch.
  6.  
  7. Sliding roof glass moves in the following order: tilt up - 1 second pause - tilt down - slide open - slide closed.
  8.  
  9. After stopping the sliding roof glass in the fully closed position, release the switch.
    NOTE
    Press and hold the UP switch until step 5 is completed. If the switch is released before step 5 is completed, repeat the operation starting at step 2.

  11. Make sure that the sliding roof works automatically in the normal manner.
  12.  

Procedure B

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2009-2010

  1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
  2.  
  3. Press the UP switch to move the sliding roof glass into the fully tilted up position and then release the UP switch.
    NOTE
    If the sliding roof glass cannot be fully tilted up due to misalignment of the roof glass, press and hold the CLOSE switch until the sliding roof glass stops closing, and then press and hold the UP switch until the sliding roof glass stops tilting up.


    NOTE
    If the sliding roof glass moves in the reverse direction while it is being closed, repeatedly tap the CLOSE switch at short intervals to fully close the sliding roof glass. When the sliding roof glass is fully closed, press the UP switch to move the sliding roof glass into the fully tilted up position.

  4.  
  5. Press and hold the UP switch again for 10 seconds to move the sliding roof glass in the following order: tilt inching motion - 1 second pause - tilt down - slide open - slide closed
  6.  
  7. After stopping the sliding roof glass in the fully closed position, release the switch.
    NOTE
    Press and hold the UP switch until step 4 is completed.


    NOTE
    While performing step 3, if the UP switch is released before it is pressed for 10 seconds, start this step over.


    NOTE
    While performing step 3, if the UP switch is released after it is pressed for 10 seconds or longer, the automatic system will not work. In such a case, perform procedure [A] to complete initialization.

  8.  
  9. Make sure that the sliding roof works automatically in the normal manner.
  10.  

Procedure C

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2009-2010

  1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
  2.  
  3. Press and hold the CLOSE switch to move the sliding roof glass in the following order: slide closed - move in the reverse direction - pause - start closing after approximately 10 seconds - tilt up - 1 second pause - tilt down - slide open - slide closed
  4.  
  5. After stopping the sliding roof glass in the fully closed position, release the switch.
    NOTE
    Press and hold the CLOSE switch until step 3 is completed.


    NOTE
    While performing step 2, if the CLOSE switch is released before it is pressed for 10 seconds, start this step over.


    NOTE
    While performing step 2, if the CLOSE switch is released after it is pressed for 10 seconds or longer, the automatic system will not work. In such a case, perform procedure [A] to complete initialization.

  7. Make sure that the sliding roof works automatically in the normal manner.
  8.  

Procedure D

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2009-2010

  1. Replacing with a new sliding roof drive gear.
    1. Remove the sliding roof drive gear.
      NOTE
      If drive parts or the sliding roof glass needs to be replaced or adjusted, complete these operations in this procedure.

    2.  
    3. Slide the sliding roof drive cable to align the marks as shown.

    5. Install a new sliding roof drive gear and then perform Procedure A for initialization.

  3. Replacing or adjusting drive parts and sliding roof glass without replacing the sliding roof drive gear.
    1. If the sliding roof glass (sliding roof drive gear) automatically works, replace and adjust necessary parts and perform procedure [B] for initialization.
      NOTE
      When removing the sliding roof drive gear, remove it where the sliding roof glass is at the fully closed position.


      NOTE
      When installing the sliding roof drive gear, slide the sliding roof drive cable to align the marks as shown in the illustration, and then install it.

    2.  
    3. If the sliding roof glass (sliding roof drive gear) does not automatically work, replace and adjust necessary parts and perform Procedure A for initialization.
      NOTE
      When removing the sliding roof drive gear, remove it where the sliding roof glass is at the fully closed position.


      NOTE
      When installing the sliding roof drive gear, slide the sliding roof drive cable to align the marks as shown in the illustration, and then install it.
