Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the 2 anti-squeal springs.
  4.  
  5. Remove the 2 brake pads from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 front anti-squeal shims and the 2 pad wear indicators from each pad.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 4 front disc brake pad support plates.
    NOTE
    Each front disc brake pad support plate has a different shape. Be sure to put an identification mark on each front disc brake pad support plate so that they can be reinstalled to their original position.

  10.  
  11. Remove the 2 bolts and front disc brake cylinder mounting.
  12.  
  13. Remove the No. 1 and No. 2 front disc brake cylinder slide pins from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.
  14.  
  15. Using a screwdriver with the tip taped, remove the front disc brake cylinder slide bushing from the No. 2 front disc brake cylinder slide pin.
    NOTE
    Do not damage the No. 2 front disc brake cylinder slide pin.

  17. Remove the front disc. Put matchmarks on the disc and the axle hub.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Align the matchmarks and install the front disc.
    NOTE
    When replacing the disc with a new one, select the installation position where the front disc has minimal runout.

  2.  
  3. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to a new front disc brake cylinder slide bushing.
  4.  
  5. Install the front disc brake cylinder slide bushing to the No. 2 front disc brake cylinder slide pin.
  6.  
  7. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to the sliding part and the seal surface of the No. 2 front disc brake cylinder slide pin.
  8.  
  9. Install the No. 2 front disc brake cylinder slide pin to the bottom side of the front disc brake cylinder mounting.
  10.  
  11. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to the sliding part and the seal surface of the No. 1 front disc brake cylinder slide pin.
  12.  
  13. Install the No. 1 front disc brake cylinder slide pin.
  14.  
  15. Install the front disc brake cylinder mounting with the 2 bolts and tighten to 79 ft. lbs. (107 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Install the 4 front disc brake pad support plates.
  18.  
  19. Apply disc brake grease to the front anti-squeal shim.
    NOTE
    When replacing worn pads, the front anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads.


    NOTE
    Install the shims in the correct positions and directions.


    NOTE
    Apply disc brake grease to the area that contacts the front anti-squeal shim.


    NOTE
    Disc brake grease can come out slightly from the area where the front anti-squeal shim is installed.


    NOTE
    Make sure that disc brake grease is not applied onto the lining surface.

  21. Install the 2 front anti-squeal shims and the 2 pad wear indicators to each pad.
    NOTE
    Install the pad wear indicators in the correct positions and directions.

  23. Install the 2 brake pads with front anti-squeal shims to the front disc brake cylinder mounting.
  24.  
  25. Install the 2 anti-squeal springs to the front disc brake pads.
    NOTE
    When replacing worn pads, the front anti-squeal springs must be replaced at the same time.


    NOTE
    Be sure to install the anti-squeal springs into the front disc brake pad installation holes as far as they will go.

Toyota Camry 2009-2010

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the 2 anti-squeal springs.
  4.  
  5. Remove the 2 brake pads from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 front anti-squeal shims and the 2 pad wear indicators from each pad.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 4 front disc brake pad support plates.
    NOTE
    Each front disc brake pad support plate has a different shape. Be sure to put an identification mark on each front disc brake pad support plate so that they can be reinstalled to their original position.

  10.  
  11. Remove the 2 bolts and front disc brake cylinder mounting.
  12.  
  13. Remove the No. 1 and No. 2 front disc brake cylinder slide pins from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.
  14.  
  15. Using a screwdriver with the tip taped, remove the front disc brake cylinder slide bushing from the No. 2 front disc brake cylinder slide pin.
    NOTE
    Do not damage the No. 2 front disc brake cylinder slide pin.

  16.  
  17. Remove the front disc. Put matchmarks on the disc and the axle hub.

To install:

    NOTE

  5. Install the front disc brake cylinder slide bushing to the No. 2 front disc brake cylinder slide pin.

  8.  
  9. Install the No. 2 front disc brake cylinder slide pin to the bottom side of the front disc brake cylinder mounting.
  10.  
  11. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to the sliding part and the seal surface of the No. 1 front disc brake cylinder slide pin.
  12.  
  13. Install the No. 1 front disc brake cylinder slide pin.
  14.  
  15. Install the front disc brake cylinder mounting with the 2 bolts and tighten to 79 ft. lbs. (107 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Install the 4 front disc brake pad support plates.
  18.  
  19. Apply disc brake grease to the front anti-squeal shim.
    NOTE
