Lower Ball Joints

Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front axle hub nut.
  6.  
  7. Separate the front speed sensor.
  8.  
  9. Separate the front disc the brake caliper assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove front disc.
  12.  
  13. Separate the tie rod assembly.
  14.  
  15. Separate the No. 1 front lower suspension arm.
  16.  
  17. Remove the front axle assembly.
  18.  
  19. Remove front wheel No. 1 bearing dust deflector.
  20.  
  21. Remove front axle hub hole snap ring.
  22.  
  23. Remove front axle hub.
  24.  
  25. Remove front disc brake dust cover.
  26.  
  27. Remove the front lower ball joint assembly, as follows:
    1. Secure the steering knuckle in a vise using aluminum plates.
    2.  
    3. Remove the cotter pin and castle nut.
      NOTE
      Do not damage the dust cover of the ball joint.


      NOTE
      Do not damage the steering knuckle.

    4.  
    5. Using SST (SST: 09628-62011) or equivalent, remove the front lower ball joint assembly.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, noting the following:
    1. Install the front lower ball joint assembly to the steering knuckle with the castle nut and tighten to 91 ft. lbs. (123 Nm). Further tighten the nut up to 60° if the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned.
    2.  
    3. Inspect and adjust the front wheel alignment.
    4.  
    5. Inspect the ABS speed sensor signal.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.

  3. Remove the front wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front axle hub nut.
  6.  
  7. Separate the front speed sensor.
  8.  
  9. Separate the front disc the brake caliper assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove front disc.
  12.  
  13. Separate the tie rod assembly.
  14.  
  15. Separate the No. 1 front lower suspension arm.
  16.  
  17. Remove the front axle assembly.
  18.  
  19. Remove front wheel No. 1 bearing dust deflector.
  20.  
  21. Remove front axle hub hole snap ring.
  22.  
  23. Remove front axle hub.
  24.  
  25. Remove front disc brake dust cover.
  26.  
  27. Remove the front lower ball joint assembly, as follows:
    1. Secure the steering knuckle in a vise using aluminum plates.
    2.  
    3. Remove the cotter pin and castle nut.
      NOTE
      Do not damage the dust cover of the ball joint.


      NOTE
      Do not damage the steering knuckle.
