Removal & Installation




CAUTION
Models are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    CAUTION
    Wait for 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent airbag deployment.

  2.  
  3. Disconnect battery negative terminal.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lower No. 2 and No. 3 steering wheel covers.
  6.  
  7. Remove the steering pad.
  8.  
  9. Remove the steering wheel assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the LH front door scuff plate.
  12.  
  13. Remove the LH cowl side trim sub-assembly.
  14.  
  15. Remove steering column cover.
  16.  
  17. Remove the turn signal switch assembly.
  18.  
  19. For vehicles without Smart Key System, disengage the 2 claws and 2 clips and then remove the lower instrument panel finish panel.
  20.  
  21. For vehicles with Smart Key System, disengage the 2 claws and 2 clips. Disconnect the connector and remove the lower instrument panel finish panel.
  22.  
  23. Using a molding remover, disengage the 2 clips. Disengage the guide and 4 claws, and then remove the No. 1 instrument cluster finish panel.

  25. Remove the 4 screws. Disconnect each connector and remove the combination meter assembly.
  26.  
  27. Remove the RH front door scuff plate.

  29. Remove cowl side trim sub-assembly.
  30.  
  31. Disengage the 4 claws. Disengage the 2 guides and remove the No. 2 under cover sub-assembly.
  32.  
  33. Remove lower instrument panel sub-assembly by performing the following:
    1. Remove the 4 screws.
    2.  
    3. Disengage the 3 claws and the 3 clips.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the connector and remove the lower instrument panel sub-assembly.

  35. Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.

  37. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the No. 1 instrument cluster finish panel garnish.

  39. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the No. 2 instrument cluster finish panel garnish.

  41. For A/T vehicles, Disengage the 6 claws and the 3 clips, and then remove the floor shift position indicator housing sub-assembly. If equipped with Seat Heater System, disconnect each connector.

  43. For M/T vehicles, open the lid of the upper console panel. Apply protective tape to the area. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 2 claws and the 5 clips, and then remove the upper console panel.
  44.  
  45. Disengage the 3 claws and the 5 clips. Disconnect the connector and remove the upper console rear panel sub-assembly.
  46.  
  47. Remove instrument panel no. 2 register assembly by performing the following:
    1. Apply protective tape to the areas.
    2.  
    3. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 3 clips.
    4.  
    5. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 4 clips.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the connector and remove the instrument panel No. 2 register assembly.
    8.

  49. Remove radio receiver with heater control panel assembly.

  51. Remove the console box pocket

    1. Remove the 2 screws.

    3. Disengage the clamp.

    5. Remove the 2 bolts and the console box assembly.

  57. Remove both of the front console box inserts by performing the following:
    1. Remove the 3 screws.
    2.  
    3. Disengage the clip and remove the front console box insert.
    4.

  59. Remove the LH front pillar garnish.

  61. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the instrument panel No. 1 register assembly.

  63. Remove instrument panel no. 1 speaker panel sub-assembly by performing the following:
    1. Disengage the 6 claws and the 2 clips.
    2.  
    3. Disengage the 2 guides and remove the instrument panel No. 1 speaker panel sub-assembly.

  65. Remove RH front no. 2 speaker assembly.
  66.  
  67. Remove the RH front pillar garnish.
  68.  
  69. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the instrument panel No. 3 register assembly.

  71. Remove instrument panel no. 2 speaker panel sub-assembly by performing the following:
    1. Disengage the 6 claws and the 2 clips.
    2.  
    3. Disengage the 2 guides and remove the instrument panel No. 2 speaker panel sub-assembly.
    4.

  73. Remove LH and RH front no. 2 speaker assemblies.
  74.  
  75. Remove no. 1 defroster nozzle garnish by performing the following:
    1. Disengage the 8 clips and the 4 guides.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect each connector and remove the No. 1 defroster nozzle garnish.
    4.

  77. Disconnect instrument panel wire assembly.
  78.  
  79. Remove instrument panel safety pad assembly by performing the following:
    1. Disengage each clamp.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect each connector.
    4.  
    5. Remove the bolt (J).

    7. Remove the 2 passenger airbag bolts (K).
    8.  
    9. If equipped with Plasmacluster, disconnect the connector
    10.  
    11. Disconnect the connector
    12.  
    13. Remove the 2 bolts (C) or (H).
    14.  
    15. Disengage the 5 claws and remove the instrument panel safety pad assembly.
    16.  
    17. Disengage the claw and remove the 5 instrument panel stays.
    18.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Perform initialization.
  4.  
  5. Inspect the steering pad.
  6.  
  7. Inspect the SRS warning light.
  8.  

Hybrid

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008


CAUTION

  5. Remove the lower No. 2 and No. 3 steering wheel covers.

  11. Remove the LH front door scuff plate.
  12.  
  13. Remove the LH cowl side trim sub-assembly.
  14.  
  15. Remove the steering column cover.
  16.  
  17. Remove the turn signal switch assembly.

  19. For vehicles without Smart Key System, disengage the 2 claws and 2 clips and then remove the lower instrument panel finish panel.
  20.  
  21. For vehicles with Smart Key System, disengage the 2 claws and 2 clips. Disconnect the connector and remove the lower instrument panel finish panel.
  22.  
  23. Using a molding remover, disengage the 2 clips. Disengage the guide and 4 claws, and then remove the No. 1 instrument cluster finish panel.

  25. Remove the 4 screws. Disconnect each connector and remove the combination meter assembly.

  31. Disengage the 4 claws. Disengage the 2 guides and remove the No. 2 under cover sub-assembly.

    3. Disengage the 3 claws and the 3 clips.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the connector and remove the lower instrument panel sub-assembly.

  35. Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.

  37. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the No. 1 instrument cluster finish panel garnish.

  39. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the No. 2 instrument cluster finish panel garnish.

    1. Disengage the 6 claws and the 2 clips.

    3. Disengage the 2 guides and remove the instrument panel No. 1 speaker panel sub-assembly.

  63. Remove the RH front no. 2 speaker assembly.
  64.  
  65. Remove the RH front pillar garnish.

  67. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the instrument panel No. 3 register assembly.

  69. Remove the instrument panel no. 2 speaker panel sub-assembly by performing the following:
    1. Disengage the 6 claws and the 2 clips.
    2.  
    3. Disengage the 2 guides and remove the instrument panel No. 2 speaker panel sub-assembly.

  71. Remove the LH and RH front no. 2 speaker assemblies.

  73. Remove the no. 1 defroster nozzle garnish by performing the following:
    1. Disengage the 8 clips and the 4 guides.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect each connector and remove the No. 1 defroster nozzle garnish.
    4.

  75. Disconnect instrument panel wire assembly.

  77. Remove the instrument panel safety pad assembly by performing the following:
    1. Disengage each clamp.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect each connector.
    4.  
    5. Remove the bolt (J).

    7. Remove the 2 passenger airbag bolts (K).

    15. Disengage the 5 claws and remove the instrument panel safety pad assembly.

  21. For vehicles with Smart Key System, disengage the 2 claws and 2 clips. Disconnect the connector and remove the lower instrument panel finish panel.

  23. Using a molding remover, disengage the 2 clips. Disengage the guide and 4 claws, and then remove the No. 1 instrument cluster finish panel.

  25. Remove the 4 screws. Disconnect each connector and remove the combination meter assembly.

    1. Disengage the 6 claws and the 2 clips.

    3. Disengage the 2 guides and remove the instrument panel No. 2 speaker panel sub-assembly.

  73. Remove LH and RH front no. 2 speaker assemblies.

  75. Remove no. 1 defroster nozzle garnish by performing the following:
    1. Disengage the 8 clips and the 4 guides.

    3. Disconnect each connector and remove the No. 1 defroster nozzle garnish.

  77. Disconnect instrument panel wire assembly.

  79. Remove instrument panel safety pad assembly by performing the following:
    1. Disengage each clamp.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect each connector.

    5. Remove the bolt (J).
