Oil & Filter Change

NOTE
Prolonged and repeated contact with engine oil will cause the loss of natural oils from the skin, leading to dryness, irritation and dermatitis. In addition, used engine oil contains potentially harmful contaminants which may cause skin cancer.


NOTE
Precautions should be taken when replacing engine oil to minimize the risk of your skin making contact with used engine oil. Wear protective clothing and gloves. Wash your skin thoroughly with soap and water, or use a waterless hand cleaner to remove any used engine oil. Do not use gasoline, thinners or solvents.


NOTE
For environmental protection, used oil and used oil filters must be disposed of at designated disposal sites.

  1. Drain the engine oil.
    1. Remove the oil filler cap.
    2.  
    3. Remove the oil drain plug and drain the oil into a container.
    4.

  3. Remove the oil filter sub assembly using the SST (09228-06501).
  4.  
  5. Install the oil filter sub assembly.
    1. Check and clean engine oil to the gasket of a new oil filter.
    2.  
    3. Lightly screw the oil filter into place by hand. Tighten it until the gasket contacts the seat.
    4.  
    5. Using the SST (09228-06501).
      NOTE
      Depending on the work space available, use either a torque wrench and tighten the oil filter to 10 ft. lbs. (13 ft. Nm), or tighten the filter 3 / 4 a turn by hand or use a common wrench.

  7. Add engine oil.
    1. Clean and install the oil drain plug with a new gasket. Tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

    3. Install the oil filler cap.

  9. Inspect for oil leaks.

    3. Apply clean engine oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.

    7. Using the special tool, tighten the oil filter. If enough space is available, use a torque wrench and tighten the filter to 10 ft. lbs. (13 Nm). If not enough space is available for a torque wrench, tighten the filter 3 / 4 turn by hand or use a common wrench.

  7. Add engine oil.
    1. Clean and install the oil drain plug with a new gasket. Tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

    3. Add new oil. Use ILSAC multigrade engine oil 0W-20 or 5W-20.

Standard capacity:



Drain and refill with oil filter change: 4.5 qts (4.3 L)
 
Drain and refill without oil filter change: 4.3 qts (4.1 L)
 
Dry fill: 5.3 qts (5 L)
 

  1. Inspect the oil filler cap.

CAUTION
Precautions should be taken when replacing engine oil to minimize the risk of your skin making contact with used engine oil. Protective clothing and gloves that cannot be penetrated by oil should be worn. The skin should be washed with soap and water, or use water-less hand cleaner, to remove any used engine oil thoroughly. Do not use gasoline, thinners, or solvents.


CAUTION
In order to preserve the environment, used oil and used oil filters must be disposed of at designated disposal sites.

  1. Drain the engine oil.
    1. Remove the oil filler cap.
    2.  
    3. Remove the oil drain plug and drain the oil into a container.
    4.

  3. Remove the oil filter element.
    1. Connect the hose with an inside diameter of 0.59 inch (15 mm) to the pipe.
    2.  
    3. Remove the oil filter drain plug from the oil filter cap.

    5. insert the pipe with the hose into the oil filter cap.
      NOTE
      Be sure to insert the pipe with the O-ring installed on the oil filter cap side.


      NOTE
      Place the hose end into a container before draining the oil from the hose.

    7. Make sure that the oil is completely drained, and remove the pipe O-ring.
      NOTE
      Be sure to turn the pipe in the direction or the arrow to remove it.

    9. Using the special tool, remove the oil filter cap.
    10.  
    11. Remove the oil filter element and O-ring from the oil filter cap.
      NOTE
      Do not use any tools to remove the O-ring in order to prevent the cap from being damaged. Be sure to remove it by hand.

  5. Install the oil filter element.
    1. Clean the inside of the oil filter cap, threads, and O-ring groove.
    2.  
    3. Apply a light coat of engine oil to a mew O-ring and install it to the oil filter cap.
      NOTE
      Make sure that the O-ring does not get twisted on the groove.

    5. Install a new oil filter element to the oil filter cap.
    6.  
    7. Remove all dirt and foreign matter from the installation surface and the inside of the cap on the engine side.
    8.  
    9. Apply a light coat of engine oil to the O-ring again and install the oil filter cap.
      NOTE
      Make sure that the O-ring does not get caught between the parts.

    10.  
    11. Install the oil filter cap with the special tool. Tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
      NOTE
      Make sure that there is no clearance between the parts after tightening the oil filter cap.

    12.  
    13. Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring and install it to the oil filter cap.
      NOTE
      Remove all dirt and foreign matter from the installation surface.

    14.  
    15. Install the oil filter drain plug to the oil filter cap. Tighten to 10 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
      NOTE
      make sure that the O-ring does not get caught between the parts.

  7. Add engine oil.
    1. Clean and install the oil drain plug with a new gasket. Tighten to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Add new oil. Use ILSAC multigrade engine oil 5W-30.
    4.

Standard capacity:



Drain and refill with oil filter change: 6.4 qts (6.1 L)
 
Drain and refill without oil filter change: 6 qts (5.7L)
 
Dry fill: 6.9 qts (6.5 L)
 

  1. Install the oil filler cap.
  2.  

  1. Inspect for oil leaks.
    1. Start the engine. Check for engine oil leaks from the connected parts of the oil filter cap and oil filter drain plug.
