Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

  1. Remove the 2 brake pads with the rear anti-squeal shims.
  2.  
  3. Remove the 2 rear anti-squeal shims and the 2 pad wear indicators from each pad.
  4.  
  5. Remove the 2 rear disc brake pad support plates from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 bolts and the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 rear disc brake cylinder slide pins (upper and lower) from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
  10.  
  11. Remove the parking brake shoe adjusting hole plug.
  12.  
  13. Remove the rear disc. Put matchmarks on the disc and the axle hub.
  14.  
  15. Release the parking brake and remove the rear disc.
    NOTE
    If the disc cannot be removed easily, contract the shoe adjuster until the disc comes free.

To install:

  1. Aligning the matchmarks, install the rear disc.
    NOTE
    When replacing the rear disc with a new one, select the installation position where the rear disc has minimal runout.

  2.  
  3. Adjust the parking brake shoe clearance.
  4.  
  5. Install the parking brake shoe adjusting hole plug.
  6.  
  7. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to the sliding parts and the seal surfaces of the rear disc brake cylinder slide pins.
  8.  
  9. Install the 2 rear disc brake cylinder slide pins (upper and lower) to the rear brake cylinder mounting.
  10.  
  11. Install the rear disc brake cylinder mounting with the 2 bolts and tighten to 46 ft. lbs. (62 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the 2 rear disc brake pad support plates to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
  14.  
  15. Apply disc brake grease to the inside of the rear anti-squeal shim.
    NOTE
    When replacing worn pads, the rear anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads.


    NOTE
    Install the shims in the correct positions and directions.


    NOTE
    Apply disc brake grease to the area that contacts the rear anti-squeal shim.


    NOTE
    Disc brake grease can come out slightly from the area where the rear anti-squeal shim is installed.


    NOTE
    Make sure that disc brake grease is not applied onto the lining surface.

  17. Install the 2 rear anti-squeal shims and the 2 pad wear indicators to each pad.
    NOTE
    Install the pad wear indicators and rear anti-squeal shims in the correct positions and directions.

  19. Install the 2 brake pads with rear anti-squeal shims to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
  20.  

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2009-2010

  1. Remove the 2 brake pads with the rear anti-squeal shims.
  2.  
  3. Remove the 2 rear anti-squeal shims and the 2 pad wear indicators from each pad.
  4.  
  5. Remove the 2 rear disc brake pad support plates from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 bolts and the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 rear disc brake cylinder slide pins (upper and lower) from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
  10.  
  11. Remove the parking brake shoe adjusting hole plug.
  12.  
  13. Remove the rear disc. Put matchmarks on the disc and the axle hub.
  14.  
  15. Release the parking brake and remove the rear disc.
    NOTE
    If the disc cannot be removed easily, contract the shoe adjuster until the disc comes free.

To install:

    NOTE
    When replacing the rear disc with a new one, select the installation position where the rear disc has minimal runout.

  13. Install the 2 rear disc brake pad support plates to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
  14.  
  15. Apply disc brake grease to the inside of the rear anti-squeal shim.
    NOTE
