Shock Absorbers

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear seat cushion assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove rear seat headrest plate cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove rear seat headrest assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear seatback assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the rear wheel.
  12.  
  13. Separate LH rear stabilizer link assembly.
  14.  
  15. Remove the 2 bolts, and disconnect the rear brake flexible hose and rear speed sensor from the rear shock absorber with coil spring and rear axle carrier.
  16.  
  17. Remove the 4 claws and the rear suspension support No. 1 cover.
  18.  
  19. Remove the rear shock absorber with coil spring, as follows:
    NOTE
    Do not remove the lock nut.


    NOTE
    Only loosen the nut when disassembling the rear shock absorber with coil spring.

    1. Loosen the lock nut of the rear shock absorber with coil spring.
      NOTE
      When removing the nuts, keep the bolts from rotating.


      NOTE
      Keep one bolt inserted to secure the hub and disc rotor.

    3. Remove the 2 nuts and 2 bolts on the lower side of the rear shock absorber with coil spring.

    5. Remove the 3 nuts on the upper side of the rear shock absorber with coil spring.
      NOTE
      Make sure that the rear speed sensor is disconnected from the rear shock absorber with coil spring.

    7. Lower the rear axle carrier, and remove the 2 bolts on the lower side of the rear shock absorber with coil spring.

To install:

  1. Install the rear shock absorber with coil spring to the rear axle carrier assembly and insert the 2 bolts from the rear of the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Slowly jack up the vehicle using a wooden block and install the rear shock absorber with coil spring (upper side) to the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Install the 3 nuts to the upper side of the rear shock absorber with coil spring and tighten to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
    NOTE
    When installing the nuts, keep the bolts from rotating.

  6.  
  7. Install the 2 nuts and 2 bolts to the lower side of the rear shock absorber with coil spring and tighten 133 ft. lbs. (180 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Fully tighten the lock nut to 41 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Connect rear speed sensor.
  12.  
  13. Install the LH rear stabilizer link assembly.
  14.  
  15. Engage the 4 claws and install the rear suspension support No. 1 cover.
  16.  
  17. To complete installation, reverse remaining removal.
  18.  
  19. Check abs speed sensor signal.
  20.  
  21. Inspect and adjust rear wheel alignment.
