2.4L Engine



Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove both front wheel opening extension pads.
  6.  
  7. Remove both engine under covers.
  8.  
  9. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
  10.  
  11. Remove RH front fender apron seal.
  12.  
  13. Remove RH No. 2 engine mounting stay.
  14.  
  15. Remove engine moving control rod sub-assembly.
  16.  
  17. Remove RH No. 2 engine mounting bracket
  18.  
  19. Remove the drive belt.
  20.  
  21. Remove generator assembly.
  22.  
  23. Using SST: 09960-10010, remove the 4 bolts and water pump pulley.
  24.  
  25. Remove water pump assembly by performing the following:
    1. Remove the clamp of the crankshaft position sensor from the water pump.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the wire of the crankshaft position sensor from the clamp bracket.
    4.  
    5. Remove the 4 bolts, 2 nuts and clamp bracket.
      NOTE
      Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the water pump and cylinder block.

    6.  
    7. Using a screwdriver, pry between the water pump and cylinder block, and then remove the water pump. Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

To install:

  1. Install water pump assembly:
    1. Remove any old seal packing material from the water pump assembly contact surface.
      NOTE
      Remove any oil from the contact surface. The parts must be set within 3 minutes after applying seal packing. Otherwise, the material must be removed and reapplied.

    2.  
    3. Apply a continuous line of seal packing. Seal packing: Toyota Genuine Seal Packing Black, Three Bond 1207B or Equivalent. Standard seal diameter: 0.09 to 0.10 in. (2.2 to 2.5 mm)

  3. Install the water pump and clamp bracket with the 4 bolts and 2 nuts and tighten to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  4.  
  5. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the water pump bolts to 19 ft. lbs. (26 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Add engine coolant.
  10.  
  11. Inspect for coolant leak.
  12.  

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2009-2010

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove both front wheel opening extension pads.
  6.  
  7. Remove both engine under covers.
  8.  
  9. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
  10.  
  11. Remove RH front fender apron seal.
  12.  
  13. Remove RH No. 2 engine mounting stay.
  14.  
  15. Remove engine moving control rod sub-assembly.
  16.  
  17. Remove RH No. 2 engine mounting bracket
  18.  
  19. Remove the drive belt.
  20.  
  21. Remove generator assembly.
  22.  
  23. Using SST: 09960-10010, remove the 4 bolts and water pump pulley.
  24.  
  25. Remove water pump assembly by performing the following:
    1. Remove the clamp of the crankshaft position sensor from the water pump.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the wire of the crankshaft position sensor from the clamp bracket.
    4.  
    5. Remove the 4 bolts, 2 nuts and clamp bracket.
      NOTE
      Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the water pump and cylinder block.

    6.  
    7. Using a screwdriver, pry between the water pump and cylinder block, and then remove the water pump. Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

To install:

  1. Install water pump assembly:
    1. Remove any old seal packing material from the water pump assembly contact surface.
      NOTE
      Remove any oil from the contact surface. The parts must be set within 3 minutes after applying seal packing. Otherwise, the material must be removed and reapplied.

  3. Install the water pump and clamp bracket with the 4 bolts and 2 nuts and tighten to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  4.  
  5. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the water pump bolts to 19 ft. lbs. (26 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Add engine coolant.
  10.  
  11. Inspect for coolant leak.
  12.  

3.5L Engine



Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove engine assembly and transaxle. secure engine stand.
  4.  
  5. Remove RH front No. 1 engine mounting bracket.
  6.  
  7. Remove the No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly, as follows:
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 idler pulley cover plates and 2 idler pulley sub-assemblies.

  9. Remove the 5 bolts and V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly.
  10.  
  11. Using SST: 09960-10010, hold the water pump pulley. Remove the 4 bolts and water pump pulley.
  12.  
  13. Remove water inlet housing, as follows:
    1. Separate the water hose.

    3. Remove the 2 bolts, nut and water inlet housing.
    4.  
    5. Remove the water inlet housing gasket and water outlet pipe O-ring.
    6.

  15. Remove the 16 bolts, water pump assembly and water pump gasket.

To install:


NOTE
Make sure that there is no oil on the threads of the A bolts.


NOTE
Be sure to replace the 2 C bolts with new ones or reuse them after applying adhesive (Part No. 08833-00080, three bond 1344 or equivalent).

  1. Install a new water pump gasket and the water pump assembly with the 16 bolts and tighten to:
    1. Bolt A: 15 ft. lbs. (21 Nm)
    2.  
    3. Bolt B: 81 inch lbs. (9.1 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Bolt C: 81 inch lbs. (9.1 Nm).

  3. Install a new water inlet housing No. 1 gasket and water outlet pipe O-ring..
    NOTE
    Be careful not to allow the O-ring to get caught between the parts.

  5. Install water inlet housing, as follows:
    1. Install a new No. 1 water inlet housing gasket and water outlet pipe O-ring.
    2.  
    3. Install the water inlet with the 2 bolts and nut and tighten to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
    4.  

  6.  
  7. Temporarily install the water pump pulley with the 4 bolts.
    1. Using SST (SST: 09960-10010) or equivalent, hold the water pump pulley.
    2.  
    3. Tighten the 4 bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (21 Nm).
    4.  

  8.  
  9. Install the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly with the 5 bolts and tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the 2 idler pulley cover plates and idler pulley sub-assemblies with the 2 bolts and tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  12.  
  13. To complete installation, reverse remaining removal procedure.
  14.  
  15. Add engine coolant.
  16.  
  17. Inspect for coolant leak.
  18.  

Specific to:

Toyota Camry 2009-2010

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove engine assembly and transaxle. Secure the engine stand.
  4.  
  5. Remove RH front No. 1 engine mounting bracket.
  6.  
  7. Remove the No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly, as follows:
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 idler pulley cover plates and 2 idler pulley sub-assemblies.

  9. Remove the 5 bolts and V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly.
  10.  
  11. Using SST: 09960-10010, hold the water pump pulley. Remove the 4 bolts and water pump pulley.
  12.  
  13. Remove water inlet housing, as follows:
    1. Separate the water hose.

    3. Remove the 2 bolts, nut and water inlet housing.
    4.  
    5. Remove the water inlet housing gasket and water outlet pipe O-ring.
    6.

  15. Remove the 16 bolts, water pump assembly and water pump gasket.

To install:


NOTE
Make sure that there is no oil on the threads of the A bolts.

  1. Install a new water pump gasket and the water pump assembly with the 16 bolts and tighten to:
    1. Bolt A: 15 ft. lbs. (21 Nm).

    3. Bolt B: 81 inch lbs. (9.1 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Bolt C: 81 inch lbs. (9.1 Nm).

  3. Install a new water inlet housing No. 1 gasket and water outlet pipe O-ring.
    NOTE
    Be careful not to allow the O-ring to get caught between the parts.

  5. Install water inlet housing, as follows:
    1. Install a new No. 1 water inlet housing gasket and water outlet pipe O-ring.
    2.  
    3. Install the water inlet with the 2 bolts and nut and tighten to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
    4.  

  6.  
  7. Temporarily install the water pump pulley with the 4 bolts.
    1. Using SST (SST: 09960-10010) or equivalent, hold the water pump pulley.
    2.  
    3. Tighten the 4 bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (21 Nm).
    4.  

  8.  
  9. Install the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly with the 5 bolts and tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the 2 idler pulley cover plates and idler pulley sub-assemblies with the 2 bolts and tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  12.  
  13. To complete installation, reverse the remaining removal procedure.
  14.  
  15. Add engine coolant.
  16.  
  17. Inspect for coolant leak.
