NOTE
Use the same procedures for the RH side as the LH side.


NOTE
The procedures listed below are for the LH side.

  1. Remove the front wheel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front axle hub nut.
  4.  
  5. Separate the front speed sensor.
  6.  
  7. Separate the front disc brake caliper assembly.
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and separate the front disc brake caliper assembly from the steering knuckle.
      NOTE
      Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.

  9. Remove the front disc.
  10.  
  11. Separate the tie rod end sub assembly.
  12.  
  13. Separate the front suspension lower No. 1 arm.
  14.  
  15. Remove the front axle assembly.
    1. Put matchmarks on the front drive shaft assembly and the front axle hub sub assembly.
    2.  
    3. Using a plastic hammer, separate the front drive shaft assembly from the front axle assembly.
      NOTE
      Be careful not to damage the drive shaft boot and speed sensor rotor.

    4.  
    5. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts, and the front axle assembly.

  17. Remove the No. 1 front wheel bearing dust deflector.
    1. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with vinyl tape, remove the No. 1 front wheel bearing dust deflector.
      NOTE
      Be careful not to damage the steering knuckle.

  19. Remove the front axle hub hole snap ring.
    1. Using the snap ring pliers, remove the front axle hub hole snap ring.
    2.

  21. Remove the front axle hub sub assembly.
    1. Hole the front axle assembly between aluminum plates in a vise.
      NOTE
      Do not over tighten the vise.

    2.  
    3. Using the special tool, remove the front axle hub sub assembly.

    5. Using the special tool and a press, remove the bearing inner race (outside) from the front axle hub sub assembly.
      NOTE
      Be careful not to drop the front axle hub sub assembly.

  23. Remove the front disc brake dust cover.
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and the disc brake dust cover from the steering knuckle.

  25. Remove the front lower ball joint assembly.
  26.  
  27. Remove the front axle hub bearing.
    1. Place the bearing inner race (outside) on the front axle hub bearing.
    2.  
    3. Using the special tool and a press, press the front axle hub bearing until it contacts the special tool.

    5. Using the special tool make the steering knuckle horizontal, fix it to the V-block.

    7. Using the special tool and a press, remove the front axle hub bearing from the steering knuckle.

To install:

  1. Install the front axle hub bearing.
    1. Using the special tool and a press, install a new front axle hub bearing to the steering knuckle.
    2.

  3. Install the front lower ball joint assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install the front disc brake dust cover to the steering knuckle with the 4 bolts. Tighten the bolts to 73 inch lbs. (8.3 Nm)
  6.  
  7. Install the front axle hub sub assembly.
    1. Using the special tool and a press, install the front axle hub sub assembly.
    2.  

  8.  
  9. Install the front axle hub hole snap ring.
    1. Using snap ring pliers, install a new front axle hub hole snap ring.
    2.  

  10.  
  11. Install the No. 1 front wheel bearing dust deflector.
    1. Using the special tool and a hammer, install a new No. 1 front wheel bearing dust deflector.
      NOTE
      Align the hole for the speed sensor in the No. 1 front wheel bearing dust deflector with the steering knuckle.

  13. Install the front axle assembly.
    1. Align the matchmarks and install the front drive shaft assembly to the front axle hub sub assembly.
    2.  
    3. Install the steering knuckle with the front axle assembly to the front shock absorber with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts. Tighten to 155 ft. lbs. (210 Nm).
      NOTE
      Only when reusing the bolts and nuts, apply a small amount of engine oil to the threads of the nuts.


      NOTE
      Be careful not to damage the drive shaft boot and speed sensor rotor.

  15. Install the front suspension lower No. 1 arm.

  17. Install the tie rod end sub assembly.
  18.  
  19. Install the front disc.
  20.  
  21. Install the front disc brake caliper assembly.
    1. Install the front disc brake caliber assembly to the steering knuckle with the 2 bolts. Tighten to 79 ft. lbs. (107 Nm).
      NOTE
      Do not twist the brake hose when installing the front disc brake caliper assembly.

  23. Install the front axle hub nut.
    1. Clean the threaded parts on the drive shaft and axle hub nut using a non-residue solvent.
      NOTE
      Be sure to perform this work for a new drive shaft.


      NOTE
      Keep the threaded parts free of oil and foreign objects.

    3. Using a socket wrench (30 mm), install a new axle hub nut. Tighten to 217 ft. lbs. (294 Nm).
      NOTE
      Take the nut after inspecting for looseness and runout in the following steps.

  25. Separate the front disc brake caliper assembly.
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and separate the front disc brake caliper assembly from the steering knuckle.
      NOTE
      Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.

  27. Remove the front disc.
  28.  
  29. Inspect the front axle hub bearing looseness.
  30.  
  31. Inspect the front axle hub runout.
  32.  
  33. Install the front disc.
  34.  
  35. Install the front disc brake caliper assembly.
    1. Install the front disc brake caliper assembly with the 2 bolts to the steering knuckle. Tighten to 79 ft. lbs. (107 Nm).
      NOTE
      Do not twist the brake hose when installing the front disc brake caliper assembly.

  37. Install the front speed sensor.
  38.  
  39. Install the front axle hub nut.
    1. Using a chisel and hammer, stake the axle hub nut.
    2.  

  40.  
  41. Install the front wheel. Tighten to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm).
  42.  
  43. Adjust the front wheel alignment.
  44.  
  45. Check the ABS speed sensor signal.
