Removal & Installation




NOTE
Replacement components must be the correct part number for the application. Components requiring the use of the thread locking compound, lubricants, corrosion inhibitors, or sealants are identified in the service procedure. Some replacement components may come with these coatings already applied. Do not use these coatings on components unless specified. These coatings can affect the final torque, which may affect the operation of the component. Use the correct torque specification when installing components in order to avoid damage.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connector from the vehicle speed sensor.
  4.  
  5. Remove the harness connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolt (2). Remove the vehicle speed sensor (1). Remove the O-ring seal (3).
  8.  
  9. To install, reverse removal procedure. Install the O-ring seal on the vehicle speed sensor. Coat the O-ring seal with a thin film of transmission fluid.
  10.  
  11. Install the vehicle speed sensor into the transmission case. Install the bolt and tighten the bolt to 97 inch lbs. (11 Nm).

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector (2).
  4.  
  5. Remove the VSS with O-ring seal.
  6.  
  7. To install, reverser removal procedure. Install the VSS with O-ring seal. Tighten the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) to 13 ft. lbs. (17 Nm).
