Multi-Function (Combination) Switch

Removal & Installataion



  1. Disable the air bag system, as outlined in the Chassis Electrical Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column.
  4.  
  5. Remove the steering column trim covers.
  6.  
  7. Remove the wire harness straps from the wire harness assembly.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly connector from the base of the column.
  10.  
  11. Remove the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly lead from the wire harness assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the 3 pan head tapping screws from the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly.
  14.  
  15. Slide the mulitfunction switch/SIR coil assembly off of the steering column. Discard the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly if replacing.
  16.  

To install:


NOTE
A new mulitfunction switch/SIR coil assembly will come precentered with a centering tab attached. Do NOT remove the centering tab until installation is complete. Failure to follow procedure will cause a misalignment to the SIR coil and centering will be required. If reusing the existing mulitfunction switch/SIR coil assembly, you must center the SIR coil.

  1. Slide the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly onto the steering column.
  2.  
  3. Screw the 3 pan head tapping screws into the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly and tighten to 30 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Route the wire harness assembly down the steering column.
  6.  
  7. Connect the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly connector at the base of the column.
  8.  
  9. Install the wire harness straps to the wire harness assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the centering tab from the mulitfunction switch/SIR coil assembly.
  12.  
  13. Install the steering column trim covers.
  14.  
  15. Install the steering wheel to the steering column.
  16.  
  17. Enable the air bag system, as outlined in the Chassis Electrical Section.
  18.  

  1. Disable the air bag system, as outlined in the Chassis Electrical Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column.
  4.  
  5. Remove the steering column trim covers.
  6.  
  7. Remove the wire harness straps from the wire harness assembly.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly connector from the base of the column.
  10.  
  11. Remove the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly lead from the wire harness assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the 3 pan head tapping screws from the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly.
  14.  
  15. Slide the mulitfunction switch/SIR coil assembly off of the steering column. Discard the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly if replacing.

To install:

  13. Install the steering column trim covers.

  15. Install the steering wheel to the steering column.
  16.  
  17. Enable the air bag system, as outlined in the Chassis Electrical Section.
  18.  


CAUTION
The turn signal multifunction switch and Inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil are serviced as an assembly.

  1. Remove the steering wheel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering column trim covers.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect any electrical connectors and remove the wiring harness from any retainers as needed.
  6.  
  7. Remove the turn signal multifunction switch bolts.
  8.  
  9. Slide the multifunction turn signal switch off of the steering column.
  10.  

To install:


CAUTION
A new multifunction turn signal switch will come pre-centered with a centering tab attached. Do NOT remove the centering tab until installation is complete. Failure to follow procedure will cause a misalignment of the multifunction turn signal switch and centering will be required. If reusing the existing multifunction turn signal switch, you must center it.

  1. Slide the multifunction turn signal switch onto the steering column.
  2.  
  3. Install the multifunction turn signal switch bolts.
  4.  
  5. Route the wire harness assembly down the steering column.
  6.  
  7. Connect any electrical connectors and install the wiring harness through any retainers as needed.
  8.  
  9. Remove the centering tab from the multifunction turn signal switch.
  10.  
  11. Install the steering column trim covers.
  12.  
  13. Install the steering wheel.
  14.
