Axle Shaft, Bearing & Seal

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the brake drum.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear axle housing cover.
  10.  
  11. Remove the pinion shaft lock bolt.
  12.  
  13. Remove the pinion shaft.
  14.  
  15. Remove the c-lock from the rear axle.
  16.  
  17. Pull the axle shaft out of the housing.
  18.  
  19. Remove the axle shaft seal and bearing.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Press on a new bearing and install the seal.
  2.  
  3. Install the axle shaft.
  4.  
  5. Install the c-lock to the rear axle.
  6.  
  7. Install the pinion shaft.
  8.  
  9. Install the pinion shaft lock bolt and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install a new gasket and the rear axle housing cover.
  12.

  5. Remove the rear wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the brake drum.

  9. Remove the rear axle housing cover.

  13. Remove the pinion shaft.
  14.  
  15. Remove the c-lock from the rear axle.
  16.  
  17. Pull the axle shaft out of the housing.
  18.  
  19. Remove the axle shaft seal and bearing.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Press on a new bearing and install the seal.
  2.  
  3. Install the axle shaft.
  4.  
  5. Install the c-lock to the rear axle.
  6.  
  7. Install the pinion shaft.
  8.  
  9. Install the pinion shaft lock bolt and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install a new gasket and the rear axle housing cover.
  12.
