Wheel Bearings

All models use sealed wheel bearings that are pre-adjusted. If the bearing need replacing, replace the front wheel hub/bearing assembly.

Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

Brake caliper with the pads without disconnecting the brake line
Wheel speed sensor harness from upper control arm
Speed sensor bracket from control arm
Speed sensor electrical connector from body

  5. Using white paint, mark the location of the speed sensor wiring harness to the steering knuckle for installation reference. Coil up the sensor wiring so it is out of the way of suspension components.
  7. On 4WD models, remove the steering knuckle.
  9. On all models, remove the wheel hub/brake rotor rear mounting bolts and remove the hub/rotor assembly. The backing plate will come off when the assembly is removed.
  11. Separate the brake rotor from the wheel hub by removing the 6 mounting bolts.

To install:

  1. Clean the contact surface between the wheel hub and brake rotor.
  3. Position the new hub/bearing assembly onto the brake rotor and tighten the bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm) in a criss-cross pattern.
  5. Install or connect the following:

Wheel hub/rotor assembly to backing plate
On 4WD models, the steering knuckle
Wheel hub/rotor to steering knuckle. Tighten the bolts to 92 ft. lbs. (125 Nm).
Speed sensor electrical connector to body

  7. While holding the rotor from turning, tighten the rotor mounting bolts in the sequence shown to 88 ft. lbs. (120 Nm).
  9. Install or connect the following:

    Brake caliper
Speed sensor bracket to control arm
Wheel speed sensor harness to upper control arm
