Wheel Speed Sensors

Removal & Installation



Front
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the sensor cable routing clamp screws.
    CAUTION
    When disconnecting the wheel speed sensor from vehicle wiring harness, be careful not to damage pins on connector

  9. Remove the speed sensor cable grommets from the intermediate bracket on the strut.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the speed sensor cable from the vehicle wiring harness behind the fender well shield.
  12.  
  13. Remove the wheel speed sensor head mounting bolt
  14.  
  15. Remove the sensor head from steering knuckle. If the sensor has seized due to corrosion, use a hammer and a punch to tap the edge of the sensor ear, rocking the sensor side-to-side until free.
  16.  
  17. Remove the front wheel speed sensor from vehicle.
  18.  
  19. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Rear
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the grommet from the floor pan of the vehicle and unplug the speed sensor cable connector from the vehicle wiring harness.
    CAUTION
    When removing the rear wheel speed sensor cable from the routing clips, be sure not to damage the routing clips. Routing clips that are molded onto the brake hose and will require replacement of the brake hose if damaged during removal or installation of the speed sensor cable.

  7. Carefully remove the speed sensor cable from the press-in routing clips.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolt securing the metal routing clip to the rear of the axle and remove the sensor cable from the metal clip.
  10.  
  11. Remove the secondary (yellow) retaining clip at the rear of the wheel speed sensor head.
  12.  
  13. Push up on the metal retaining clip until it bottoms. This will release the wheel speed sensor head from the hub and bearing. While holding the metal clip up, pull back on the wheel speed sensor head, removing it from hub and bearing.
  14.  
  15. Installation is the reverse of removal. Lubricate the o-ring on the sensor with wheel bearing grease before installation.
