Operation

The Electronic Control Module (ECM) performs many functions on your vehicle. The module accepts information from various sensors and computes the required fuel flow rate necessary to maintain the correct amount of air/fuel ratio throughout the entire engine operational range and controls the shifting of the transmission.

Based on the information that is received and programmed into the ECM's memory, the ECM generates output signals to control relays, actuators and solenoids. The module automatically senses and compensates for any changes in altitude when driving your vehicle.

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Remove left front headlamp module.
  4.
  5. Remove ECM upper mounting bolts.
  6.
  7. Lift ECM from radiator support.
  8.
  9. Disconnect ECM electrical connectors.
  10.
  11. Separate ECM from mounting bracket.
  12.
  13. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  14.

Testing

Service of the ECM should consist of either replacement of the ECM or programming of the Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM). If the diagnostic procedures call for the ECM to be replaced, the replacement ECM should be checked to ensure that the correct part is being used. If the correct part is being used, remove the faulty ECM and install the new service ECM.
