Power Window System



Diagnosis & Testing

Any diagnosis of the Power Windows system should begin with the use of scan tool. For information on the use of the scan tool, refer to the appropriate Diagnostic Service information.

  1. Turn the ignition on.
  2.  
  3. With the scan tool, record and erase DTC's.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition off, wait 10 seconds then turn the ignition on.
  6.  
  7. Try to operate the window several times.
  8.  
  9. With the scan tool, read active DTC's.
  10.  
  11. Refer to the symptom list for problems related to the power window DTC's.
  12.  

Removal & Installation
Switch
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  4.  
  5. Using a trim stick, start at the bottom of the switch and bezel assembly and pry up to remove the switch and bezel assembly from the door trim panel.
  6.  
  7. Unlatch the locking tab on the harness side connector of the switch.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect wire harness connectors from switch.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove door trim panel:
    1. Remove the plug and remove screw attaching door pull cup to inner door panel.
    2.  
    3. Remove switch bezel and disconnect power window/memory switch.
    4.  
    5. Remove screws attaching trim panel to door from below map pocket.
    6.  
    7. If equipped, remove window crank using a window crank removal tool.
    8.  
    9. Remove screw holding door trim to door panel from behind inside latch release handle .
    10.  
    11. Disengage clips attaching door trim to door frame around perimeter of panel.
    12.  
    13. Lift trim panel upward to disengage flange from inner belt molding at top of door.
    14.  
    15. Tilt top of trim panel away from door to gain access to latch linkage.
    16.  
    17. Disengage clip attaching linkage rod to inside latch release handle.
    18.  
    19. Separate linkage rod from latch handle.
    20.  
    21. Disconnect the power door switch, courtesy lamp electrical connectors.
    22.  
    23. Remove front door trim panel from vehicle.
    24.  

  6.  
  7. Carefully remove watershield as it will be reused upon installation.
  8.  
  9. Remove inner belt molding.
  10.  
  11. Remove the door glass:
    1. Position glass to gain access to front regulator lift plate and rear regulator lift plate through front and rear access holes in door panel
    2.  
    3. Loosen two screws on regulator clamping glass
    4.  
    5. Remove glass from regulator lift plates
    6.  
    7. Disengage glass from glass run weatherstrip
    8.  
    9. Insert front of glass between glass run channel and outer door panel
    10.  
    11. Lift glass upward and out of exterior side of the opening at top of door
    12.

  13. Disconnect wire connector from power window motor.
  14.  
  15. Loosen screws attaching front and rear window guide rails to inner door panel.
  16.  
  17. Remove screw heads on guide rails from key hole slots in inner door panel.
  18.  
  19. Loosen screws attaching motor/housing to inner door panel.
  20.  
  21. Remove regulator from inner door panel.
  22.  

To install:

  1. Place window regulator in position on inner door panel.
  2.  
  3. Place screw heads on guide rails in position through key hole slots in inner door panel.
  4.  
  5. Tighten screws to attach front and rear guide rails to inner door panel to 75-95 inch lbs. (8.5-10.7 Nm). Tighten using the sequence in the illustration.
  6.  
  7. Tighten screws to attach motor/housing to inner door panel to 25 inch lbs. (2.8 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect wire connector into power window motor.
  10.  
  11. Install the door glass:
    1. Ensure clamp opening is set to 0.2 in. (6 mm) for the front and rear glass liftplate
    2.  
    3. Place glass in window opening with front inserted between run channel and outer door panel
    4.  
    5. Lower glass downward into door
    6.  
    7. Insert ends of glass into glass run weatherstrip channels at front and rear of door
    8.  
    9. Place glass in position on regulator glass clamps
    10.  
    11. Roll glass up to level to tighten the two glass clamp fasteners. Tighten fasteners to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm)

  13. Verify door glass alignment and operation.
  14.  
  15. Install inner belt molding.
  16.  
  17. Install the watershield and inner door panel.
  18.
