Fan Switch



Removal & Installation
Lower

NOTE
This procedure requires the use of a cooling fan switch socket, special tool J42865 or equivalent.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Drain the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine splash shield retaining bolts and the engine splash shield.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the cooling fan control switch electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the cooling fan control switch.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the cooling fan control switch and tighten to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the cooling fan control switch electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the engine splash shield.
  6.  
  7. Install the engine splash shield retaining bolts and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Fill the cooling system.
  12.  

Upper

NOTE
This procedure requires the use of a cooling fan switch socket, special tool J42865 or equivalent.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Remove the radiator inlet hose clamp from the radiator.
  6.  
  7. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the cooling fan control switch electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the cooling fan control switch.

To install:

  1. Install the upper cooling fan control switch and tighten to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the cooling fan control switch electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the radiator inlet hose to the radiator.
  6.  
  7. Install the radiator inlet hose clamp to the radiator.
  8.  
  9. Fill the cooling system.
  10.  

Removal & Installation




CAUTION
 An electric fan under the hood can start up even when the engine is not running and can injure you. Keep hands, clothing and tools away from any underhood electric fan.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery negative cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the secondary AIR cut-off bracket bolts and bracket from the cooling fan.
  6.  
  7. Remove the intake air resonator.
  8.  
  9. Remove the upper radiator covers using the following procedure:
    1. Release the self-locking tabs.
    2.  
    3. Remove the cover screws.
    4.  
    5. Remove the covers.
    6.  

  10.  
  11. Disconnect the primary fan motor electrical connector.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the primary fan cooling switch electrical connector.
  14.  
  15. Remove the auxiliary water pump clips and the auxiliary water pump from the fan shroud.

  17. Remove the transmission oil cooler fitting bolt.
  18.  
  19. Remove the transmission oil cooler bracket bolt and reposition the transmission oil cooler lines.
  20.  
  21. Remove the fan shroud bolts and remove the fan shroud from the vehicle.
  22.  
  23. Remove the fan motor nuts (1).

  25. Remove the fan motor from the fan shroud.
  26.  
  27. Remove the fan blade retainer clip (1).

  29. Remove the fan blade from the fan motor.
  30.  

To install:

  1. Install the fan blade to the fan motor.
  2.  
  3. Install the fan blade retainer clip (1).

  5. Install the fan motor to the fan shroud.
  6.  
  7. Install the fan motor nuts (1) and tighten to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).

  9. Install the fan shroud to the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Install the fan shroud bolts and tighten to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the upper transmission oil cooler pipe fitting and seals.
  14.  
  15. Install the transmission oil cooler fitting bolt and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Install the transmission oil cooler bracket bolt and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Install the auxiliary water pump to the fan shroud.
  20.  
  21. Install the auxiliary water pump retaining clips.
  22.  
  23. Connect the primary cooling fan switch electrical connector.
  24.  
  25. Connect the primary cooling fan electrical connector.
  26.  
  27. Remove the upper radiator covers using the following procedure:
    1. Position the covers.
    2.  
    3. Insert the self-locking tabs.
    4.  
    5. Install the radiator cover screws and tighten to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
    6.  

  28.  
  29. Install the intake air resonator.
  30.  
  31. Install the secondary AIR cut-off valve bracket.
  32.  
  33. Install the secondary AIR cut-off valve bracket bolts and tighten to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
  34.  
  35. Connect the negative battery cable.
  36.
