Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine coolant.
  6.  
  7. Discharge and recover the A/C system.
  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Intake air resonator
     
    Front timing belt cover
     
    Intake plenum
     
    Timing belt
     
    Rear timing belt cover
     
    A/C compressor
     
    A/C compressor and power steering pump bracket and position it out of the way of the oil pump housing
     
    Lower alternator mounting bolt and loosen the upper mounting bolt then, position the alternator aside
     
    Lower and upper oil pans
     
    Crankshaft drive gear
     
    Oil pump
     
    Front main oil seal and collar

To install:

  1. Coat the pump side of the oil pump gasket with a thin layer of sealant. Do not cover or restrict the gasket openings with sealant.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pump collar
     
    New front main oil seal
     
    Oil pump with a new gasket by aligning the guide pins. Torque the bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
     
    Crankshaft gear. Torque the bolt to 184 ft. lbs. (250 Nm) plus an additional 60 degree turn.
     
    Upper oil pan. Torque the bolts to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
     
    Lower oil pan. Torque the bolts to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
     
    Alternator. Torque the upper and lower bolts to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).

  5. Re-tighten the oil pump bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install or connect the following:

    A/C compressor and power steering pump bracket. Torque the fasteners to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
     
    A/C compressor. Torque the bolts to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
     
    Rear timing belt cover. Torque the bolts to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
     
    Timing belt
     
    Front timing belt cover. Torque the bolts to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
     
    Intake plenum. Torque the bolts to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
     
    Intake air resonator
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  8.  
  9. Fill the engine oil.
  10.  
  11. Fill the coolant.
  12.  
  13. Recharge the A/C system.
  14.  
  15. Start the vehicle and checks for leaks.
