Removal & Installation



Left Side
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the intake plenum
  4.  
  5. Remove the intake manifold.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil filler spout (1) by unlocking the tab and twisting counterclockwise.
  8.  
  9. Remove the wiring harness channel bolts and position the wiring harness channel out of the way.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) electrical connector and cut the plastic tie.
  12.  
  13. Remove the left ignition coil.
  14.  
  15. Remove the camshaft cover bolts.
  16.  
  17. Remove the camshaft cover.

  19. Remove the camshaft cover seals.
    NOTE
    Ensure all 8 sealing O-rings are accounted for. The O-rings may stick to the camshaft bearing caps or they may fall into the oil return journals in the cylinder head.

  21. Clean the camshaft cover.
  22.  
  23. Clean the sealing surfaces.
  24.  

To install:

  1. Lightly coat the new seals, including the O-rings, with engine oil prior to installation to assist in holding the O-ring seals to the camshaft cover.
  2.  
  3. Install the camshaft cover seals.
  4.  
  5. Apply a thin coat of silicone sealer at the front and at the back of the seals.
  6.  
  7. Install the camshaft cover to the cylinder head.

  9. Install the camshaft cover bolts and tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the left ignition coil.
  12.  
  13. Connect the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) electrical connector and secure the wire with a plastic tie.
  14.  
  15. Reposition the wiring harness channel and install the bolts and tighten the wiring harness channel bolts to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Install the oil filler spout (1) by twisting clockwise and snapping in place.
  18.  
  19. Install the intake manifold.
  20.  
  21. Install the intake plenum.
  22.  

Right Side
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the intake plenum.
  4.  
  5. Remove the intake manifold.
  6.  
  7. Remove the right ignition coil.
  8.  
  9. Remove the knock sensor wire harness nut and bracket.
  10.  
  11. Remove the camshaft cover bolts.
  12.  
  13. Remove the camshaft cover.
  14.  
  15. Remove the camshaft cover seals.
    NOTE
    Ensure all 8 sealing O-rings are accounted for. The O-rings may stick to the camshaft bearing caps or they may fall into the oil return journals in the cylinder head.

  17. Clean the camshaft cover.
  18.

To install:

  11. Install the knock sensor wire harness bracket and nut and tighten the knock sensor wire harness bracket nut until fully seated and not stripped.
  12.  
  13. Install the right ignition coil.
  14.  
  15. Install the intake manifold.
  16.  
  17. Install the intake plenum.
  18.
