Lower Control Arms

Bushing Replacement



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the control arm from the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Press the bushings from the control arm.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Press the new bushings into the control arm.
  2.  
  3. Install the control arm in the vehicle.
  4.  

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    Do not open the hydraulic brake system.



    Front wheel
     
    Brake pad wear indicator rubber sleeve
     
    Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS)
     
    Brake hose from the strut bracket
     
    Brake caliper from the steering knuckle
     



    Outer tie rod from the steering knuckle
     
    Stabilizer shaft nut from the shaft
     
    Steering knuckle from the strut
     
    Lower control arm ball stud pinch bolt
     
    Steering knuckle from the lower control arm ball stud. The rotor and wheel hub will remain attached.

  5. Loosen the lower control arm horizontal/vertical bolts.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Horizontal bolts
     
    Vertical bolts by rotating the lower control arm from the support bracket
     
    Lower control arm
     

  8.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:
    NOTE
    Be certain that the lower control arm is in the horizontal position before tightening the bolts to prevent the bushings from binding.


    NOTE
    Clean the bolt holes for the brake caliper by running a M12 x 105 tap through the holes. Use new bolts for the caliper to steering knuckle connection after applying a thread locking compound.



    Lower control arm into the support bracket
     
    Vertical bolt and hand-tighten at this time
     
    Horizontal bolt by inserting it from the rear side of the vehicle. Torque all bolts to 103 ft. lbs. (140 Nm).
     



    Steering knuckle to the lower control arm ball stud. Torque the bolt to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
     
    Steering knuckle to the strut with new bolts. Hand tighten the bolts at this time.
     
    Stabilizer shaft link to the shaft. Torque the nut to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm).
     
    Outer tie rod to the steering knuckle
     
    New outer tie rod nut. Torque the nut 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
     



    Caliper to the steering knuckle. Torque the new bolts to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm) plus a 37 degree turn.
     
    Brake hose to the strut bracket with a new clip
     
    WSS. Torque the bolt to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
     
    Brake pad wear indicator sleeve to the strut
     
    Front wheel
     

  2.  
  3. Adjust the wheel alignment and tighten the lower strut mounting bolts to 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Road test the vehicle.
  6.
