Strut (MacPherson Strut)


Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
    Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) wiring from the strut
    Brake wear indicator wires from the strut
    Brake flex hose clip from the strut
    Brake caliper and bracket from the steering knuckle
    Stabilizer shaft link
    Lower strut mounting bolts from the steering knuckle
    Upper support plate protective cap
    Upper support plate
    Strut from the wheel well


To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:
    The steering knuckle-to-strut bolts will not be tightened to specifications until after camber corrections have been made.

    Before installing the bolts for the caliper, run an M12 x 1.5 tap through the holes and coat the new bolts with a thread locking compound.

    Strut into the strut tower
    Upper support plate and nut. Torque the nut to 41 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).
    Cap to the upper support nut
    Steering knuckle to the strut
    New bolts for the steering knuckle. Torque the lower ball joint pinch bolt to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).

    Stabilizer shaft link to the strut. Torque the nut to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm).

    Brake caliper and bracket to the steering knuckle. Torque the bracket bolts to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm) plus a 37 degree turn.
    Brake flex hose to the strut and retain it with the clip
    WSS wiring to the strut
    Brake wear indicator wires to the strut
    Front wheel

  3. Adjust the wheel alignment.
  5. Torque the steering knuckle-to-strut bolts to 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm).
  7. Road test the vehicle.
