Removal & Installation
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
- Place the gear selector in N .
Remove or disconnect the following:
NOTEMake certain that the drive axle separator tool is properly aligned to the differential and drive axle. The tool is clearly marked -Differential Side-. If installed incorrectly, damage to the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) sensor reluctor ring is possible.
- Remove the axle shaft.
Use a suitable prytool to remove the axle seal from the differential.
- Use a Seal Installation Tool (such as J 26234) to install the new seal.
- Lubricate the splines of the halfshaft and the sealing surfaces with differential oil.
Install or connect the following:
NOTEIf necessary use a soft faced tool, such as a rubber mallet, to seat the halfshaft fully in the differential bore.
Axle shaft into the differential bore by aligning the splines
Outer end of the axle shaft into the wheel bearing/hub inner flange. Torque the bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm) plus an additional 67 degree turn.
- Road test the vehicle.
