Disarming & Arming

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the steering wheel so the vehicle wheels are pointing straight-ahead.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition key to the LOCK position and remove the key.
  6.  
  7. Remove the AIR BAG fuse from the fuse block.
  8.  
  9. Remove the left side sound insulator.
  10.  
  11. Detach the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and yellow 2-way Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) connector at the multi-use bracket near the base of the steering column. The driver-s side air bag is now disabled.
  12.  
  13. Remove the right side sound insulator.
  14.  
  15. Detach the CPA and yellow 2-way SIR connector which is located at the base of the steering wheel. The passenger-s side air bag is now disabled.
  16.  
  17. On models equipped with side air bags, disconnect the CPA from the inflatable restraint side impact module located under the driver seat.

To arm:

After necessary repairs are made, re-enable the air bag system as follows:

  1. Be sure the ignition is locked and the key is removed.
  2.  
  3. On models equipped with side air bags, attach the Connector Position Assurance CPA from the inflatable restraint side impact module located under the driver seat.
  4.  
  5. Attach the yellow 2-way Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) connector and CPA at the base of the steering wheel.
  6.  
  7. Install the right side sound insulator.
  8.  
  9. Attach the yellow 2-way SIR connector and CPA at the multi-use bracket at the base of the column.
  10.  
  11. Install the left side sound insulator.
  12.  
  13. Install the AIR BAG fuse.
  14.  
  15. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position and verify the AIR BAG light flashes 7 times, then shuts off.
  16.  

Zone 1



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  4.  
  5. Turn OFF the ignition.
  6.  
  7. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  8.  
  9. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) fuse block cover.
    NOTE
    With the SIR fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

  11. Remove the SDM fuse.
  12.  
  13. Remove the radiator upper air baffle and deflector.
  14.  
  15. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) (2) from the front end sensor harness connector (3).
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the front end sensor harness connector (3) from the front end sensor (1).

Enabling Procedure:

  1. Remove the key from the ignition.
  2.  
  3. Connect the front end sensor harness connector (3) to the front end sensor (1).
  4.  
  5. Install the CPA (2) into the front end sensor harness connector (3).
  6.  
  7. Install the radiator upper air baffle and deflector.
  8.  
  9. Install the SDM fuse.
  10.  
  11. Install the I/P fuse block cover.
  12.  
  13. Use caution while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF.
  14.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicles wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  6.  
  7. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  8.  
  9. Open the hood and locate the underhood fuse center on right/passenger shock tower.
    NOTE
    With the SIR Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

  10.  
  11. Lift the cover for the underhood fuse center.
  12.  
  13. Locate and remove the SIR fuse from the underhood fuse center.
  14.  
  15. Remove the radiator upper air baffle and deflector and locate the front end sensor also known as electronic frontal sensor (EFS).
  16.  
  17. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the front end sensor connector.
  18.  
  19. Remove the front end sensor connector from the front end sensor.
  20.  

Enabling Procedure:

  1. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  2.  
  3. Connect the front end sensor connector to the front end sensor.
  4.  
  5. Install the CPA into the front end sensor connector.
  6.  
  7. Install the radiator upper air baffle and deflector.
  8.  
  9. Install the SIR Fuse.
  10.  
  11. Close the underhood fuse center cover.
  12.  
  13. Use caution while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF.
  14.

  11. Remove the SDM fuse.
  12.  
  13. Remove the radiator upper air baffle and deflector.
  14.

  9. Install the SIR Fuse.

  11. Close the underhood fuse center cover.
  12.  
  13. Use caution while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF.

Zone 2



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  4.  
  5. Turn OFF the ignition.
  6.  
  7. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  8.  
  9. Remove the I/P fuse block cover.
    NOTE
    With the SIR Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

  11. Remove the SIR Fuse.
  12.  
  13. Remove the side impact sensor (SIS)-LF from the center pillar (3).
  14.  
  15. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the SIS-LF connector (2).
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the SIS-LF connector (2) from the SIS-LF (1).
  18.  

Enabling Procedure

  1. Connect the SIS-LF connector (2) to the SIS-LF (1).
  2.  
  3. Install the CPA to the SIS-LF connector (2).
  4.  
  5. Install the side impact sensor (SIS)-LF into the center pillar (3).
  6.  
  7. Install the SIR Fuse.
  8.  
  9. Install the fuse block access cover.
  10.  
  11. Staying well away from all inflator modules and pre-tensioners, turn ON the ignition.
    1. The AIR BAG indicator will flash 7 times.
    2.  
    3. The AIR BAG indicator will then turn OFF.
    4.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  4.  
  5. Turn OFF the ignition.
  6.  
  7. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  8.  
  9. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) fuse block cover.
    NOTE
    With the SIR fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

  11. Remove the SDM fuse.

  13. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the left side impact sensor (SIS) connector.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the left SIS connector from the left SIS.

Enabling Procedure:

  1. Remove the key from the ignition.
  2.  
  3. Connect the left SIS connector to the left SIS.
  4.  
  5. Install the CPA to the left SIS connector.
  6.  
  7. Install the SDM fuse.
  8.  
  9. Install the fuse block access cover.
  10.  
  11. Use caution while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF.
  12.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  4.  
  5. Turn OFF the ignition.
  6.  
  7. Remove the key from the ignition switch.

  13. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the left side impact sensor (SIS) connector.

  15. Disconnect the left SIS connector from the left SIS (2).

  1. Remove the key from the ignition.
  2.  
  3. Connect the left SIS connector to the left SIS (2).
  4.  
  5. Install the CPA to the left SIS connector.
  6.  
  7. Install the SDM fuse.
  8.  
  9. Install the fuse block access cover.
  10.  
  11. Use caution while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF.
  12.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicles wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  6.  
  7. Remove the key from the ignition switch.

    NOTE
    With the SIR Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

  11. Lift the cover for the underhood fuse center.
  12.  
  13. Locate and remove the SIR fuse from the underhood fuse center.
  14.  
  15. When disabling the roof rail module go to step 8, if the side impact sensor (SIS) needs disabling then go to step 11.
  16.  
  17. Remove the left rear sail panel.
  18.  
  19. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the left/driver roof rail module connector (2).

  21. Disconnect the left roof rail module wiring harness yellow connector (2) from the left roof rail module (3).
  22.  
  23. Remove the left/driver door trim panel.

  25. Remove enough of the water deflector to access the SIS.
  26.  
  27. Remove the SIS CPA from the left SIS connector (3).
  28.  
  29. Remove the SIS connector (3) from the SIS (1).

Enabling Procedure:

  1. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  2.  
  3. When enabling the SIS proceed to step 3, if the roof rail module needs enabling then go to step 7.
  4.  
  5. Install the left SIS connector (3) to the SIS (1).
  6.  
  7. Install the SIS CPA to the SIS connector (3).
  8.  
  9. Replace and secure the water deflector back over the SIS.
  10.  
  11. Install the left/driver door trim panel.
  12.  
  13. Connect the left roof rail module wiring harness yellow connector (2) to the left roof rail module (3).
  14.  
  15. Install the CPA to the left roof rail module connector (2).
  16.  
  17. Install the left rear sail panel.
  18.  
  19. Close the underhood fuse center cover.
  20.  
  21. Use caution while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF.
  22.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle wheels are pointing straight ahead.

  5. Turn OFF the ignition.

  7. Remove the key from the ignition switch.

  25. Remove enough of the water deflector to access the SIS.
  26.  
  27. Remove the SIS CPA from the left SIS connector (3).

  29. Remove the SIS connector (3) from the SIS (1).

Enabling Procedure:

  1. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  2.

  3. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  4.  
  5. Turn OFF the ignition.
  6.  
  7. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  8.  
  9. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) fuse block cover.
    NOTE
    With the SIR fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

  10.  
  11. Remove the SIR fuse.
  12.  
  13. Remove the LH insulator panel.
  14.  
  15. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector located at the base of the steering column.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil connector.

Enabling Procedure:

  1. Remove the key from the ignition.
  2.  
  3. Connect the steering wheel module coil connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the CPA from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector located at the base of the steering column.

  7. Install the LH insulator panel.
  8.  
  9. Install the SIR fuse.
  10.  
  11. Install the I/P fuse block cover.
  12.  
  13. Use caution while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF.

  1. Remove the key from the ignition.
  2.  
  3. Connect the steering wheel module coil connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the CPA to the steering wheel module coil connector located at the base of the steering column.
  6.  
  7. Install the LH insulator panel.
  8.  
  9. Install the SDM fuse.
  10.  
  11. Install the I/P fuse block cover.
  12.  
  13. Use caution while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF.
  14.

  14.  
  15. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector located at the base of the steering column.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil connector.
  18.  

Enabling Procedure:

  1. Remove the key from the ignition.
  2.  
  3. Connect the steering wheel module coil connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector located at the base of the steering column.
  6.  
  7. Install the LH insulator panel.
  8.  
  9. Install the SIR Fuse.
  10.  
  11. Install the IP fuse block cover.
  12.  
  13. Staying well away from all inflator modules and pretensioner, turn ON the ignition.
    1. The AIR BAG indicator will flash 7 times.
    2.  
    3. The AIR BAG indicator will then turn OFF.
    4.

  15. Remove the left/driver sound insulator from the instrument panel (I/P) (2).
  16.  
  17. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the steering wheel module coil yellow connector (1).

  19. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil yellow connector (1) from the vehicle harness yellow connector (3).
  20.  

Enabling Procedure:

  1. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  2.  
  3. Connect the steering wheel module coil yellow connector (3) to the vehicle harness yellow connector (1).
  4.  
  5. Install the CPA to the steering wheel module coil yellow connector (1).
  6.  
  7. Install the left sound insulator to the I/P (2).
  8.  
  9. Install the SIR Fuse.
  10.  
  11. Close the underhood fuse center cover.
  12.

  15. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the I/P module connector, located at the RH side of the I/P.

  17. Disconnect the I/P module connector.

  19. Remove the LH insulator panel.

  21. Remove the CPA from the steering wheel module coil connector located at the base of the steering column.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil connector.

  25. Remove the CPA from the side impact module LF connector (1), located under the driver seat.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the side impact module LF connector.
  28.  

Enabling Procedure:

  1. Remove the key from the ignition.
  2.  
  3. Connect the side impact module LF connector (1), located under the driver seat.
  4.  
  5. Install the CPA to the side impact module LF connector.
  6.  
  7. Connect the steering wheel module coil connector.
  8.  
  9. Install the CPA to the steering wheel module coil connector located at the base of the steering column.
  10.  
  11. Install the LH insulator panel.
  12.  
  13. Connect the I/P module connector, located at the RH side of the I/P.
  14.  
  15. Install the CPA to the I/P module connector.
  16.  
  17. Install the RH I/P access hole cover.
  18.  
  19. Install the SDM fuse.
  20.  
  21. Install the LH I/P access hole cover.
  22.  
  23. Use caution while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  4.  
  5. Turn OFF the ignition.
  6.  
  7. Remove the key from the ignition switch.

  9. Remove the IP fuse block cover.
    NOTE
    With the SIR Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

  15. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector located at the base of the steering column.

  19. Remove the CPA from the inflatable restraint IP module connector located to the right of the steering column.

  21. Disconnect the IP module connector.

  23. Remove the CPA from the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) wiring harness connector.

Enabling Procedure:

  1. Remove the key from the ignition.
  2.  
  3. Connect the SDM wiring harness connector from the SDM.
  4.  
  5. Install the CPA from the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) wiring harness connector.
  6.  
  7. Connect the IP module connector.
  8.  
  9. Install the connector position assurance CPA from the inflatable restraint CPA from the inflatable restraint IP module connector located to the right of the steering column.
  10.  
  11. Connect the steering wheel module coil connector.
  12.  
  13. Install the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector located at the base of the steering column.
  14.  
  15. Install the LH insulator panel.
  16.  
  17. Install the SIR Fuse.
  18.  
  19. Install the IP fuse block cover.
  20.  
  21. Staying well away from all inflator modules and pretensioner, turn ON the ignition.
    1. The AIR BAG indicator will flash 7 times.
    2.  
    3. The AIR BAG indicator will then turn OFF.

  33. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil yellow connector from the vehicle harness yellow connector.

  35. Remove the CPA from the left/driver seat belt pretensioner connector located under the driver seat.

  37. Disconnect the left seat belt pretensioner connector from vehicle wiring harness connector.

  39. Remove the left rear sail panel.
  40.  
  41. Remove the CPA from the left/driver roof rail module connector.
  42.  
  43. Disconnect the left roof rail module wiring harness yellow connector from the left roof rail module.

  45. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the right/passenger seat belt pretensioner connector located under the passenger seat.

  47. Disconnect the right seat belt pretensioner connector from vehicle wiring harness connector.

Enabling Procedure:

  1. Remove the key from the ignition switch.

  3. When enabling the SDM use the entire procedure, if the right/passenger seat belt pretensioner needs enabling then proceed to step 17.

  5. Connect the right roof rail module wiring harness yellow connector to the right roof rail module.
  6.  
  7. Install the CPA to the right roof rail module connector.
  8.  
  9. Install the right rear sail panel.
  10.  
  11. Connect the I/P module yellow connector to the vehicle harness yellow connector.
  12.  
  13. Install the CPA to the I/P module yellow connector.
  14.  
  15. Install the right sound insulator to the I/P (3).
  16.  
  17. Connect the steering wheel module coil yellow connector to the vehicle harness yellow connector.

  19. Install the CPA to the steering wheel module coil yellow connector.
  20.  
  21. Install the left sound insulator to the I/P.
  22.  
  23. Connect the left seat belt pretensioner connector to the vehicle wiring harness connector.

  25. Install the CPA to the seat belt pretensioner connector.
  26.  
  27. Connect the left roof rail module wiring harness yellow connector to the left roof rail module.
  28.  
  29. Install the CPA to the left roof rail module connector.
  30.  
  31. Install the left rear sail panel.

  33. Connect the right seat belt pretensioner connector to the vehicle wiring harness connector.

  35. Install the CPA to the seat belt pretensioner connector.

  37. Install the SIR Fuse.

  39. Close the underhood fuse center cover.

  39. Remove the left rear sail panel.

  41. Remove the CPA from the left/driver roof rail module connector.

  43. Disconnect the left roof rail module wiring harness yellow connector from the left roof rail module.

  45. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the right/passenger seat belt pretensioner connector located under the passenger seat.

  47. Disconnect the right seat belt pretensioner connector from vehicle wiring harness connector.

Enabling Procedure:

  1. Remove the key from the ignition switch.

  3. When enabling the SDM use the entire procedure, if the right/passenger seat belt pretensioner needs enabling then proceed to step 17.

  5. Connect the right roof rail module wiring harness yellow connector to the right roof rail module.
  6.  
  7. Install the CPA to the right roof rail module connector.
  8.  
  9. Install the right rear sail panel.
  10.  
  11. Connect the I/P module yellow connector to the vehicle harness yellow connector.
  12.  
  13. Install the CPA to the I/P module yellow connector.
  14.  
  15. Install the right sound insulator to the I/P (3).
  16.  
  17. Connect the steering wheel module coil yellow connector to the vehicle harness yellow connector.
  18.  
  19. Install the CPA to the steering wheel module coil yellow connector.
  20.  
  21. Install the left sound insulator to the I/P.
  22.  
  23. Connect the left seat belt pretensioner connector to the vehicle wiring harness connector.
  24.  
  25. Install the CPA to the seat belt pretensioner connector.
  26.  
  27. Connect the left roof rail module wiring harness yellow connector to the left roof rail module.
  28.  
  29. Install the CPA to the left roof rail module connector.
  30.  
  31. Install the left rear sail panel.
  32.  
  33. Connect the right seat belt pretensioner connector to the vehicle wiring harness connector.
  34.  
  35. Install the CPA to the seat belt pretensioner connector.
  36.  
  37. Install the SIR Fuse.
  38.  
  39. Close the underhood fuse center cover.

  41. Use caution while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF.
