  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Relieve fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    Have a container available to retrieve any fuel remaining in the filter.



    Quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the fuel filter
     
    Threaded fitting at the outlet side of the fuel filter.

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Fuel filter into the mounting bracket and torque the bolt to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm)
     
    Quick-connect fitting on the inlet side of the filter
     
    B 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm)
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition to the ON position for two seconds then turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds. Turn the ignition ON and check for leaks.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition OFF and check for leaks.
  6.  

5.3L Engine



The fuel filter is located inside the fuel tank and is not serviceable.

Except Grand Prix W/5.3L Engine

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Relieve fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    Have a container available to retrieve any fuel remaining in the filter.



    Quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the fuel filter
     
    Threaded fitting at the outlet side of the fuel filter.

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Fuel filter into the mounting bracket and torque the bolt to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm)
     
    Quick-connect fitting on the inlet side of the filter
     
    Threaded fitting to the outlet side of the filter and using a back up wrench, torque the outlet nut to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm)
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition to the ON position for two seconds then turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds. Turn the ignition ON and check for leaks.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition OFF and check for leaks.
  6.
