Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Drain the fuel tank with a hand held siphon until the level is less than 1 / 4 full.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:
    WARNING
    When the lockring is removed from the fuel sender, the sender assembly will spring up. Downward pressure should be kept on the assembly and slowly released to ensure the sender assembly does not get damaged.



    Negative battery cable
     
    Spare tire and jack
     
    Floor trunk liner by pulling it back
     
    Fuel sender access panel
     
    Fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connector
     
    Fuel sender electrical connector
     
    Fuel sender assembly quick connect fittings
     
    Retaining lockring from the fuel sender

  8.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    New O-ring on the fuel tank
     
    Fuel sender
     
    Lockring on the fuel sender
     
    Fuel sender electrical connector
     
    Fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connector
     
    Quick connect fittings at the fuel sender
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Add a small amount of fuel to the fuel tank.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition to the ON position for 2 seconds then turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds. Turn the ignition ON and check for leaks.
  6.  
  7. Turn the ignition OFF and check for leaks.
  8.  
  9. Install or connect the following:

    Fuel sender access panel and torque the nuts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm)
     
    Trunk liner
     
    Spare tire, jack and spare tire cover
     

  10.  
  11. Refill the fuel tank.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Drain the fuel tank.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fuel tank from the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Clean all of pipe and hose connections. Also clean all areas around the connections.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the quick-connect fittings at the fuel sender assembly.
  14.  
  15. Remove the fuel sender assembly retaining snap ring, the fuel sender assembly and the O-ring from the fuel tank. Discard the fuel sender assembly O-ring.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Position the new fuel sender assembly O-ring on the fuel tank.
    NOTE
    Make sure not to fold over or twist the fuel pump strainer when installing the fuel sender assembly, as this will restrict fuel flow. Also, ensure that the fuel pump strainer does not block full travel of float arm.

  2.  
  3. Install the fuel sender assembly and the fuel sender assembly retaining snap ring.
  4.  
  5. Connect the quick-connect fittings at the fuel sender assembly.
  6.  
  7. Install the fuel tank and add fuel.
  8.  
  9. Pressurize the system as follows to check for leaks:
    1. Turn the ignition switch ON for 2 seconds.
    2.  
    3. Turn the ignition switch OFF for 10 seconds.
    4.  
    5. Turn the ignition switch ON .
    6.  
    7. Check for fuel leaks.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    New O-ring on the fuel tank
     
    Fuel sender
     
    Snapring on the fuel sender
     
    Fuel sender electrical connector
     
    Fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connector
     
    Quick connect fittings at the fuel sender
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Add a small amount of fuel to the fuel tank.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition to the ON position for 2 seconds then turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds. Turn the ignition ON and check for leaks.
  6.  
  7. Turn the ignition OFF and check for leaks.
  8.  
  9. Install or connect the following:

  11. Refill the fuel tank.

  11. Refill the fuel tank.
