Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Front wheel
     
    Brake caliper and rotor
     
    Wheel speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Axle hub nut
     
    Wheel bearing and hub assembly
     
    Axle shaft
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Axle shaft
     
    Wheel bearing and hub assembly
     
    Axle hub nut. Tighten the nut to 175 ft. lbs. (237 Nm).
     
    Wheel speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Brake caliper and rotor
     
    Front wheel
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2.  
  3. Remove half shaft from vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Clean axle seal area.
  6.  
  7. Remove snap ring and O-ring from the axle shaft.
  8.  
  9. Remove axle with Remover 8420A and slide hammer.

  10.  

To install:

  1. Lubricate bearing bore and seal lip with gear lubricant.
  2.  
  3. Install axle shaft and engage shaft into side gear. Push firmly on axle shaft to engage snap ring.
  4.  
  5. Check the differential fluid level and add fluid if necessary.
  6.  
  7. Install half shaft.
  8.  
  9. Install skid plate, if necessary.
  10.
