Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Position a hydraulic jack under the axle to support it.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel and tire assemblies.
  4.  
  5. Mark and disconnect the front propeller shaft from the axle.
  6.  
  7. Remove lower suspension arms mounting nuts and bolts from the axle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the stabilizer bar link and shock absorber from the axle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the track bar from the body rail bracket.
  12.  
  13. Remove the drag link from the pitman arm.
  14.  
  15. Lower the axle until the spring is free from the upper mount. Remove the coil spring clip and remove the spring.

To install:

  1. Position the coil spring on the axle pad. Install the spring clip and bolt. Tighten bolt to 16 ft. lbs. (21 Nm)
  2.  
  3. Raise the axle into position until the spring seats in the upper mount.
  4.  
  5. Install the stabilizer bar links and shock absorbers to the axle bracket.
  6.  
  7. Install the track bar to the body rail bracket.
  8.  
  9. Install the lower suspension arms to the axle. Install mounting bolts and nuts finger tight.
  10.  
  11. Install the front propeller shaft to the axle.
  12.  
  13. Install the wheel and tire assemblies.
  14.  
  15. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
  16.  
  17. Tighten lower suspension arms nuts to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm)

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Position a hydraulic jack under the axle to support it.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel and tire assemblies.
  4.  
  5. Remove stabilizer bar links mounting nuts and bolts from the axle brackets.
  6.  
  7. Remove shock absorbers lower mounting nuts from the axle brackets.
  8.  
  9. Remove the track bar mounting bolt from the axle bracket.
  10.  
  11. Lower the axle until the spring is free from the upper mount and isolator.
  12.  
  13. Remove the spring from the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Remove and inspect the upper and lower spring isolators.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the upper isolator.
  2.  
  3. Install the lower isolator with the isolator locator nub in the axle pad hole.
  4.  
  5. Position the coil spring on the axle spring pad
    CAUTION
    Ensure the spring is positioned on the lower isolator with the end of the spring coil against the isolator spring locator.

  6.  
  7. Raise the axle and guide the springs onto the spring upper mounts and lower shock studs into the axle brackets.
  8.  
  9. Install the shock absorbers lower mounting nuts.
  10.  
  11. Install the stabilizer bar link to the axle bracket and install the mounting bolts and nuts.
  12.  
  13. Install the track bar to the axle bracket and install the mounting bolt
    NOTE
    It may be necessary to pry the axle assembly over to install the track bar bolt.

  14.  
  15. Tighten all suspension components to proper torque.
  16.  
  17. Install the wheel and tire assemblies.
  18.  
  19. Remove support and lower vehicle.
  20.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheels
     
    Front driveshaft, if equipped
     
    Lower suspension arm
     
    Stabilizer bar links
     
    Track bar
     
    Drag link
     
    Brake hose brackets
     
    Spring retainers
     
    Coil spring
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Coil spring
     
    Spring retainers. Torque the bolt to 16 ft. lbs. (21 Nm).
     
    Stabilizer bar links. Torque the bolts to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
     
    Track bar. Torque the bolt to 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm).
     
    Front driveshaft to the axle
     
    Drag link
     
    Lower suspension arm. Torque the bolt to 133 ft. lbs. (180 Nm).
     
    Front driveshaft, if equipped
     
    Front wheels
     

  2.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2.  
  3. Remove the strut.

  5. Install the strut assembly in the Branick 7200T spring removal/installation tool or equivalent.
  6.  
  7. Compress the spring.
  8.  
  9. Remove the upper strut nut.
    NOTE
    The nub in the upper strut mount must be 180° from the centerline of the lower bracket on the strut for proper installation.

  10.  
  11. Remove the strut.
  12.  
  13. Remove the strut upper mounting plate.
  14.  
  15. Remove and inspect the upper and lower spring isolators.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Compress the spring.
  2.  
  3. Install the lower isolator.
  4.  
  5. Position the strut into the coil spring. Make sure the jounce bumper is on the strut rod.
  6.  
  7. Install the upper isolator.
    NOTE
    For proper orientation the nub hole in the upper strut plate must be 180° in a centerline from the bracket at the bottom of the strut.

  8.  
  9. Install the upper strut mounting plate.
  10.  
  11. Install the strut upper mounting nut. Tighten to 25 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Decompress the spring.
  14.  
  15. Remove the strut assembly from the spring compressor tool.
  16.  
  17. Install the strut assembly.
  18.
