Bushing Replacement



The lower control arm bushings are serviced with the control arms as complete assemblies.

Removal & Installation

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the lower suspension arm nut and bolt from the axle bracket.
  4.  
  5. Remove the nut and bolt from the rear bracket and remove the lower suspension arm.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Position the lower suspension arm at the axle bracket and rear bracket.
  2.  
  3. Install the bolts and finger tighten the nuts.
  4.  
  5. Remove support and lower the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the front and rear nuts to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm)
  8.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2.  
  3. Support the axle with a jack stand.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel speed sensor wiring, if equipped
     
    Lower control arm
     

  6.  

To install:


NOTE
The weight of the vehicle must be supported by the springs before tightening the control arm fasteners.

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Lower control arm
     
    Wheel speed sensor wiring, if equipped
     

  2.  
  3. Tighten the control arm bolts to the following specifications:

    Grand Cherokee: Frame bracket bolt to 115 ft. lbs. (156 Nm) and axle bracket nut to 120 ft. lbs. (163 Nm).

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the steering knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the shock clevis bracket from the lower control arm.
  10.  
  11. Remove the nut and bolt from the front of the lower control arm.
  12.  
  13. Remove the rear bolts and flag nuts from the lower control arm.
  14.  
  15. Remove the lower control arm from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Position the lower suspension arm into the frame rail bracket.
  2.  
  3. Install the rear bolts for the lower control arm to the frame, Tighten to 142 Nm (105 ft lbs).
  4.  
  5. Install the nut and bolt for the front of the lower control arm Tighten to 169 Nm (125 ft lbs).
  6.  
  7. Install the lower clevis bolt at the lower control arm and tighten to 65 ft. lbs. (88 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the steering knuckle and tighten the nut to 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
  12.  
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Perform wheel alignment.
  16.
