Upper Control Arms

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Support the rear axle with a jack stand.
  4.  
  5. Remove the park brake cables and brake hose from the arm.
  6.  
  7. Remove the ball joint nut from the top of the upper suspension arm.
  8.  
  9. Separate ball joint from the arm with Remover 8278.
  10.  
  11. Remove the upper suspension arm mounting bolts and remove the arm.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Position the upper suspension arm in the frame rail brackets.
  2.  
  3. Install the mounting bolts and tighten to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm)
  4.  
  5. Pull the arm down on the ball joint stud and install a new nut. Tighten the nut to 105 ft. lbs. (142 Nm)
  6.  
  7. Install the park brake cables and brake hose to the arm.
  8.  
  9. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
  10.  

Left Side
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Support the rear axle.
  6.  
  7. Lower the fuel tank in order to gain access to the bolt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the upper suspension arm nut and bolt from the axle bracket.
  10.  
  11. Remove the nut and bolt from the frame rail and remove the upper suspension arm.
  12.  

To install:


NOTE
All torques should be done with vehicle on the ground with full vehicle weight.

  1. Position the upper suspension arm in the frame rail bracket.
  2.  
  3. Install the mounting bolt and nut tighten to 95 ft. lbs. (129 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Position the upper suspension arm in the axle bracket.
  6.  
  7. Install the mounting bolt and nut tighten to 100 ft. lbs. (136 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Raise the fuel tank back into place and secure.
  10.  
  11. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
  12.  

Right Side
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Support the rear axle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the upper suspension arm nut and bolt from the axle bracket.
  8.  
  9. Remove the nut and bolt from the frame rail and remove the upper suspension arm.
  10.  

To install:


NOTE
All torques should be done with vehicle on the ground with full vehicle weight.

  1. Position the upper suspension arm in the frame rail bracket.
  2.  
  3. Install the mounting bolt and nut tighten to 95 ft. lbs. (129 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Position the upper suspension arm in the axle bracket.
  6.  
  7. Install the mounting bolt and nut tighten to 100 ft. lbs. (136 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
  10.
