Eight glow plugs are used to preheat the chamber as an aid to starting. They are essentially small 12 volt heaters that turn on when the ignition switch is turned to the "Run" position prior to starting the engine. They remain on for a short time after starting and then automatically shut off.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
Use extreme care when removing the glow plugs as the tip may break off; requiring cylinder head removal to retrieve it.
- Tag and disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Using the large hex nut, loosen the plug and carefully pull it out of the cylinder head.
- Installation is in the reverse order.
