Front Driveshaft

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Raise and safely support the front of the truck as necessary.
  2.  
  3. Matchmark the driveshaft and flanges on the front axle and transfer case so that the shaft can be replaced in its original position.
  4.  
  5. Remove the U-bolts or straps at the axle end of the shaft. Compress the shaft slightly and tape the bearings into place to avoid losing them.
  6.  
  7. Remove the U-bolts or straps at the transfer case end of the shaft. Tape the bearings into place.
  8.  
  9. Remove the driveshaft.
  10.  
  11. Reverse the procedure for installation, making sure that the constant velocity joint (the big double one) is at the transfer case end.
  12.  
  13. Refer to the chassis greasing procedure in for details on front driveshaft lubrication.
