The six cylinder engine number is on a pad at the right side of the cylinder block behind the distributor. On V8s, the number is on the right front bank of the engine block. The last three letters of the engine number are a code identifying the engine as a truck engine (T), and two letters identifying the engine displacement, model year, special equipment, and transmission type. The T is not used on 1969 models. These codes are listed in the Engine Identification Code Chart. They can also be found in more detail in dealer parts guides.
