Never smoke when working around gasoline! Avoid all sources of sparks or ignition. Gasoline vapors are EXTREMELY volatile!

Air conditioned cars require removal of the rear compressor bracket to gain working room.

  1. Working from under the car, remove the ignition coil.
  2.  
  3. On some later models, it may be necessary to remove the air cleaner assembly and the distributor cap.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the fuel inlet and outlet lines at the pump and plug the inlet line.
  6.  
  7. Remove the two pump mounting bolts and lockwashers and remove the fuel pump and gasket.
  8.  
  9. Install the fuel pump with a new gasket coated with sealer. Tighten the two mounting bolts.
  10.  
  11. Connect the fuel inlet and outlet lines at the pump. Install the ignition coil.
  12.  
  13. Start the engine and check for leaks.
