REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Remove the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise the vehicle and disconnect the exhaust pipe from the manifold.
  4.  
  5. Lower the vehicle and remove the carburetor heat tube.
  6.  
  7. On California models, remove the pulse air injection tubing.
  8.  
  9. Remove the exhaust manifold bolts and manifold.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the manifold and manifold bolts. Install the inner upper bolts first as these are guidebolts.
  2.  

Exhaust manifold center bolts must be torqued to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). The end legs must be torqued to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).

  1. On California models, install the pulse air injection tubing.
  2.  
  3. Install the carburetor heat tube.
  4.  
  5. Raise the vehicle and connect the exhaust pipe to the manifold.
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle and connect the battery cable. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  8.  

Diesel Engine

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise the vehicle and support it safely.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold.
  6.  
  7. Remove the power steering belt, flex hose and pump.
  8.  
  9. Remove the exhaust manifold bolts and remove the manifold.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  
  3. Clean all mating surfaces and install a new gasket.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the bolts a little at a time starting with the inner bolts and working outward.
  6.
