Timing Belt Cover

Upper Front Cover
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the radiator upper mounting panel or fan shroud.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine accessory drive belts on the gasoline engine. Remove the bypass hose on the diesel engine.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine fan.
  6.  
  7. Remove the cover retaining screws and nuts and remove the cover.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Align the screw slots on the upper and lower parts of the cover.
  2.  
  3. Install the cover retaining screws and nuts.
  4.  
  5. Install the engine fan.
  6.  
  7. Install the engine accessory drive belts or the bypass hose.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  

Lower Front Cover
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the alternator and the air conditioning compressor bolts, if so equipped. Remove the drive belt.
  4.  
  5. Remove the damper pulley-to-crankshaft bolt and washer and remove the pulley.
  6.  
  7. Remove the upper front timing belt cover as outlined previously.
  8.  
  9. Remove the lower cover retaining nut (gasoline) or bolts (diesel). Remove the lower cover.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Align the cover with the studs on the engine block.
  2.  
  3. Install the lower front cover retaining nut or bolts.
  4.  
  5. Install the upper front timing belt cover.
  6.  
  7. Install the crankshaft damper pulley. Torque the retaining bolt to the specified torque.
  8.  
  9. Install the drive belt and tighten the alternator and compressor mounting bolts.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  

Upper Rear Cover
ALL EXCEPT DIESEL ENGINE
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the upper and lower front cover, the timing belt, and the camshaft timing sprocket.
  4.  
  5. Remove the three screws retaining the camshaft sprocket cover to the camshaft carrier.
  6.  
  7. Inspect the condition of the cam seal.
  8.  
  9. Position and align a new gasket over the end of the camshaft and against the camshaft carrier.
  10.  
  11. Install the three camshaft sprocket cover retaining screws.
  12.  
  13. Install the camshaft sprocket, timing belt, and upper and lower front covers.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.
