REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Remove the air cleaner.
  2.  
  3. If necessary, remove the EGR valve, as outlined in .
  4.  
  5. Remove the PCV valve and hose from the rocker cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rocker cover bolts.
  8.  
  9. Tag and disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs and clips.
  10.  
  11. Rap the rocker cover with a rubber hammer to break the RTV gasket seal, then remove the cover.
  12.  

Do not pry on the cover.

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Thoroughly clean the sealing surfaces then apply a continuous diameter bead of RTV to the rocker cover.

RIGHT SIDE
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air cleaner.
  4.  
  5. Tag and disconnect the spark plug wires from the plugs and cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the accelerator linkage and springs from the carburetor.
  8.  
  9. If equipped with automatic transaxle, disconnect the T.V. linkage from the carburetor.
  10.  
  11. If equipped with cruise control, remove the diaphragm actuator mounting bracket.
  12.  
  13. Remove the air management valve and necessary hoses.
  14.  
  15. Remove the cover retaining bolts and remove the cover.
  16.  
  17. Installation is the reverse of removal. Clean all sealing surfaces and apply a 1 / 8 " bead of RTV sealant along sealing surfaces.
  18.  

When sealing around the attaching bolt holes, always flow the RTV on the inboard side of the holes. Keep the RTV Sealant out of the bolt holes as this could cause a "hydraulic" condition which would damage the head casting.

LEFT SIDE
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air cleaner.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front engine strut, at the radiator support and engine bracket.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the vacuum hoses and spark plug wires.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front engine strut bracket from the cylinder head.
  10.  
  11. Remove the cover to head retaining bolts and remove the cover.
  12.  
  13. Installation is the reverse of removal. Clean the sealing surfaces and apply a 1 / 8 " bead of RTV sealant all around the sealing surfaces.

When sealing around the attaching bolt holes, always flow the RTV on the inboard side of the holes. Keep the RTV sealant out of the bolt holes as this could cause a "hydraulic" condition which would damage the head casting.
