Fig. Fig. 1 The fuel pressure regulator and meter cover are serviced as an assembly

The fuel pressure regulator and fuel meter cover are serviced as a complete assembly.

  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure, as outlined earlier in this section. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  5. Detach the fuel injector electrical connector by squeezing the two tabs together and pulling straight up.
  7. Remove the screws attaching the fuel meter cover to the fuel meter body. Note the location of the short screws during removal.

Do not immerse the fuel meter cover (with the pressure regulator) in any type of cleaner. Immersion in cleaner will damage the internal fuel pressure regulator diaphragm and gaskets.

Do not remove the four screws attaching the pressure regulator to the fuel meter cover. The fuel pressure regulator includes a large spring under heavy tension which, if accidentally released, could cause personal injury. The fuel meter cover is only serviced as a complete assembly and includes the fuel pressure regulator, which was preset and plugged at the factory.

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
