REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Inline 6-Cylinder Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. At the rocker arm cover, disconnect the ventilation hoses. Remove the air cleaner.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the wires, the fuel and the vacuum tubes from the rocker arm cover clips.
  4.
  5. If equipped, disconnect the air injection hose from the check valve of the AIR pipe.
  6.
  7. Remove the cover-to-cylinder head screws and the cover by rotating it from under the air pipe, if equipped.
  8.

DO NOT pry on the cover to remove it. If it sticks, use your hand palm or a rubber mallet to bump it rearwards, from the front.

  1. Using a gasket scraper, clean the gasket mounting surfaces.
  2.
  3. To install, reverse the removal procedures. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  4.

When installing the cover, use a new gasket (1968-76) or a 1 / 8 in. bead of RTV sealant (1977-78).
